The Junior Women's Club of Jefferson Township will hold its Annual Memorial Wrobo 5K Run in Memory of 2nd Lt. J.T. Wroblewski on Sunday, October 5, 2008.
On April 6th, 2004, Oak Ridge resident, 2nd Lieutenant John Thomas (J.T) Wroblewski succumbed to injuries sustained while battling in Ramadi, Iraq. 2nd Lt. Wroblewski was in command of approximately 40 Marines in the 2nd battalion, 4th Marines unit.
During an ambush of his convoy, 2nd Lt. Wroblewski suffered a fatal injury when he left his vehicle to assist wounded Marines and radio for help.
He was rushed to the hospital where he was able to give thumbs up to Marines surrounding his bedside before passing away. 2nd Lt. Wroblewski died a hero and was buried at Arlington Cemetery in Virginia. He had joined the Marines shortly after the 9-11 attacks, determined to make a difference. He is survived by his wife, parents, three younger brothers, and many devoted family members and loyal friends.
Each year since the Wroblewski Family lost their beloved son, the Jefferson Township 5K Run/Walk has been renamed the Memorial Wrobo Run, been held in his honor to raise funds for various community projects.
The Junior Woman's Club of Jefferson Township (JWCJT) has elected to donate the proceeds from this year's Wrobo Run to The New Hope Food Pantry, located here in Jefferson Township. The New Hope Food Pantry gives out between 50-70 bags each distribution day, several times a month, to families in the community, including senior citizens.
The Junior Woman's Club also contributes to our Jefferson Township High School Graduates' pursuit of higher education. Ten percent of the proceeds from this event will go toward our high school scholarship award, an award that honors graduating students who have displayed an extraordinary level of civic dedication via volunteer efforts throughout their lives, along with exceptional academic achievement.
The JWCJT is a non-profit, community service organization that is dedicated to the betterment of Jefferson Township for all those that reside within. Throughout the year the JWCJT sponsors many worthwhile events.
