If you're as fed up with paying ridiculous amounts of money to drive from Point A to Point B as I am, then start taking some measures to TAKE BACK YOUR CASH (well as much as possible)!  I recently wrote a blog entry on gas stations that were in violation in varying degrees of the law.

To continue in the same vein, here are some tips that can help making the most of what you just sank into your tank!

  • The obvious is to search GasBuddy.com or GasPriceWatch.com.  These resouces allow you to search by zip code or city/state.  The prices are kept well updated too somehow!
  • Use your GPS system!  Change the settings to "fastest route" to get you to your destination more directly.
  • Get a gas rewards card.  There are a couple out there that can earn you up to 5% cash back when you make a gas purchase.  Some more, but do your research.
  • Don't idle!  Did you know that one minute of idling burns the same amount of gas it takes to start the engine?  Ok, so the A/C won't be on and it's hot out...a little sweat never hurt anyone.
  • Improve your car's gas mileage.  It's been reported that you can use up to 15% less gas by driving 62 mph on the highway rather than 75 mph ("Oh no...not that!" says my lead foot.).
  • Make sure the price on the pump matches what's on the sign!  Caveat emptor!
  • Make sure that pump starts at 0.00!!!
  • There's a best time of day to fill up! Supposedly, prices are lowest before dawn or late at night. Some stations will raise prices during the day, especially during rush hour.

As a REALTOR(r), I'm especially dependant on my vehicle and gas prices so I'm always on the lookout for the best fuel deal in town.

Hoping these tips will prove useful in keeping your tank fuller, longer...the same goes for your wallet!

Timely advice and great content for a farming postcard or door knocking piece.  Put the ideas in several emails over time to your clients, contacts or prospects.

I NEVER would have considered that, Scott!  What a fantastic idea!  Last time I made my rounds in the neighborhood, I gave out the "usual" monthly sales in our town piece.  THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR GREAT ADVICE!!!  And thanks for stopping by and reading!

Hi Catherine!  Hope you're doing well!  I always have it on...also the DETOUR feature is fantastic when you get stuck in an unexpected traffic jam....will give you backroads to your destination.  Stay well and thanks for your comment!
