I just wanted to touch base on a subject that has been posted many times here in Active Rain.

I have seen many posts regarding whether having signage on your vehicle was too gaudy, over the top, effective, worth the effort and the like.

I have commented on those posts that for the few dollars I have spent.....always tasteful, I have had a return many times over the expense.

Last night was no exception.....actually it was kind of funny.  One of my Brother Knight's working security at the Carnival stopped and chatted as we made our rounds.  He called me by name, and being new  to the Knight's I was a bit lost for his (my bad and now I know and will not forget).

He said you are a Realtor right?   I said yes, he went on to tell me he saw my signage on my truck outside the Adoration chapel.  I said you mean my car?  He said no, the green truck you have it on the rear gate.  I chuckled and said ok, however I haven't had that for over two years now, I have a car and it is in my rear window.

He laughed, maybe it has been that long, yet he had not forgotten it.....( I have the same thing again now because it works).

He took my card (Yes, NEVER without them) as he stated he has rented for the last 4 years and now wants to own and in a 55+ community....YIPPEE!!!!!!  To boot new construction, so he took my card and I am going to send a few developments for his review.

So does automobile advertising work?  I have been and will continue to be an advocate.

Thanks.  You reminded me that I have to put my magnets back on my car.

I know that I was hesitant to put signs on my car.  I ordered magnetic signs that look like my property signs in color and design.  I left them in their shipping boxes for 2 months before actually putting them on my vehicle.  I felt like a moving target !  But I did get used to them being there and it helped local residents realize who this "new company" is in town.  More imprints on the brain cells will certainly lead to more calls and possible business over time.

It also helps you SOI (friends) know that you are still in real estate.  I have often heard agents talk about how they missed out on a referal because their friends didn't know they were still in real estate.  I guess many agents come and go.  Anything that lets people know you are in Real Estate is bound to help.  Thanks.

I feel that if it is tastefully done it is worth it. Your story proves it!

Several decades ago in College Station, Texas, I had business signage on my car. I traded it in on a new car. A couple of weeks later, I had the whole Brazos County Sheriff's Department and all of the College Station Police officers surround my house (slight exageration, but you get the visual) at 6:00 in the morning. Turns out that my old car had been sold, apparently with the signage on it, and the car had been used in a robbery. They tracked the business down to me. Duh! I've always had signage on my cars, but I learned to remove the signs myself before trading in the car.

Although I have a personal car, I never drive it, and it's going to be up for sale shortly because it's a high-performance gas hog, albeit a real nice one. Letting it go will save a few thousand each year on insurance as well. I always go out in the company car, and I always wear a company shirt. After all, I never know who's going to be looking at me or my car at just the exact moment when they need my services, or know a family or friend who does.

By the way, if you put graphics on your car, make sure you drive responsibly. Well, you should drive responsibly with or without graphics, but if you have your phone number on the car and you cut someone off, or run a stop sign, or whatever, and someone sees that great big phone number on your car, expect a real nice phone call. A few years ago an employee took the company car and, since he was running late, apparently went speeding through a neighborhood. One mom got the phone number, called the number, and gave me an earful of four-letter words that I didn't know existed, none of which were LOVE or FREE, my favorite four-letter words.

Make sure you put graphics on the back of your shirts. The reason for that is because people walking towards you have very little time to read the front of your shirt before they are past. And they also don't want to stare too long because that can be considered rude. If your graphics are on the back of your shirt, people walking behind you will either read your shirt or check out your butt. LOL

Laura,

Absolutely....I ave written a post a while back just about that.....if we are not reminding them why should we think anyone else is.

Well, if they are looking at your behind, maybe that's where you might consider placing your graphics.  :)  In my case...there's a whole lot of space available...

Dan-thanks for the comment on my post.  :)

Russell,

All great points....we are looking for the advertising hit, yet we may be an easy target for getting ourselves in trouble by not being a responsible driver.
