Cuil is a new search engine started by ex-employees of Google. "Cuil" supposedly means "wisdom" in Gaelic. In English, pronounced "cool." Here's a pretty good article on Cuil.

Cuil Philosophy:

  1. Size Matters
  2. Content & Context over Inbound Links
  3. Organization is Fundamental - Better classification of information
  4. Privacy is Paramount - Cuil analyzes the web, not its users

Jenna Ryan's Opinion on Cuil

I like the way the results show up. Very cool (pardon the pun), but I am not too happy with the random images the search engine pulls for each site. A search of "The Marketing Shop.com" uncovers a slew of photos that aren't ours, nor associated with The Marketing Shop.com. That's just NOT COOL. There is a photo of someone I've never seen before in my life next to my name when I search for "Jenna Ryan." That's just wierd. Hopefully it's a bug and they'll fix that some time soon.

I thought the results for some of our primary keywords were terrible, and this was the photo that was randomly generated next to our Austin real estate website:

Jenna,  I went over and tried it (cuil.com), and I didn't like it.  They've got a long ways to go.  Mike

Jason,

That's just hideous!

The concept of photos by the search results is great, but at least get the image from the SAME WEBSITE, please!
