So you bought a beautiful, new waterfront home in Hubert N C on Queens Creek, the  Waterfront home Hubert NC furniture has been moved in, you've unpacked and the family is pretty much settled into a new life and routine in your lovely new Hubert N C home.

You've visited the schools that the kids will be attending in Swansboro which are only about a 10 minute drive from the neighbhorhood and all are pleased with that as it means everyone gets to sleep a little later on school days.  And there's the Day Care center for the little ones, Mom is pleased and comfortable with it.

Swansboro NC The restaurants and shops on the waterfront in Swansboro are all and more than you anticipated.  The boutiques and gift shops will provide hours of entertainment and shopping pleasure especially for  Mom and the girls.  You can't wait until your "inland friends" visit so you can take them to one of the local restaurants for some of the fabulous local crab, shrimp, clams and fish.

Dad's commute to Camp LeJeune Marine Base is short and convenient, that makes him happy.  The airport and interstate highway is a short drive away which makes out of town trips easy.

So what's missing?  Oh, I bet I can guess.........a boat and boat dock.  Sorry, I can't help
boating Hubert NC you with the boat but I do have some very important information about the boat dock.   Hold on don't order the lumber and nails yet.  Before you start construction, you must have a permit.  Actually, you probably will need two permits.

So where do you begin and what do you need to do?  Your first stop should be the Onslow County Building and Planning Department.  It is located at 118 Old Bridge St. in Jacksonville.  The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful and will answer your questions and assist you in making the necessary applications.  A CAMA (Coastal Area Management Act) permit is required for most any type of activity that occurs over and/or in any body of water in the 20 North Carolina counties regulated by CAMA.    For more information check out CAMA's webesite and  Will My Project Require a Permit?

Now where is the phone book?  Let's see "boat dealers" ....yeah, it's time to go BOAT SHOPPING!

Home owners need a permit to build a dock in the Chesapeake Bay watershed too.  All I can say about that is, GOOD LUCK.

Getting a dock permit to build or even repair or replace is next to impossible.

Oh no not the permits. Quick run and do the work first. This what I am seeing. People are full of permits and paying and paying. I just heard of a repermit first before a permit can be done on septic. I was why repermit first when I need to know what was the permit for first them have septic system line added with permit. Why the retest first if I know I need more lines. I did not get an answer.

Ah!  The dock!  We have to get to the important stuff!  I'm still up at Cape Cod, and I think that people care more about water rights and docks than about the house!

Great update Cynthia, many do not know the requirements of adding a dock.  Many are from other areas and think they just plunk in a dock.  We have many of the same requirements, except on inland lakes and even in some instances there are permit requirements.  Nice post.

Hello Lenn,
Permits had betting more and more difficult to get but we can still get the permits to build docks.

Joan,
That is what I'm hearing from many areas of the country, guess we are very lucky.

Susan,
The problem in our county is not getting the permits, they're really pretty easy to get if one follows the proper procedure but the cost just keeps going up, up, up.

Hi Pat,
I hope you are enjoying your vacation, yes waterfront homeowners are very protective of their docks.

Hello Don,
Thank you sir, I always appreciate your visit and comments.

Thanks Gary,
You are correct, people who have never owned waterfront property often just go buy the lumber and start putting in the dock.  It's not long before they get a visit from a CAMA officer.

Debbie,
Thank you, I do try to provide information that I think will be beneficial to Consumers in my area.

Hi Jim,
Why do I think you are going to end up on the coast?  :0)

Judy,
I am having a great summer, it is just passing much too quickly.  I hope you are enjoying yours.  Take care.

Teri,
Now, that might be a fun job in the summer but not sure I'd enjoy it very much in the winter.  LOL.

Cynthia:  Super post.  You are so creative and really make your posts stand above.  Love the boat picture!  I really must start using different fonts and color.  Thanks to you, I've learned how to do this.

Great information!  I know here on Lake Norman the restrictions on docks are significant and a homebuyer of waterfront property needs this kind of information!  BTW.. you are almost to the incredible 200,000 mark...Congratulations!

Diane,
To boaters the dock is more important than the house so they better have all the right information!
