Thursday when I arrived home I walked into the house and told my husband not to let me out of the house with my camera, ever again. (I told Rich Jacobson this on the phone Friday evening and he mentioned in a post. Thank you, Rich.)
Since I joined Active Rain I have begun looking at the world around me with Active Rain Eyes. I've loved where we live even before we moved here. Now I found myself wanting to know more about it. I was seeing things that at one time I may well have driven right by. Now everything became a little more interesting. There were so many things I wanted to share about Lake Anna with anyone who had the slightest interst. Everything seemed to be a possible post. I seem to be noticing so much more.
This explains two posts I wrote, I Finally Came Home...235 Photos Later and I Finally Came Home...235 Photos Later (Part 2). That journey took me almost five (5!!!) hours and it was only a 65 mile drive.
The Active Rain Addiction is not only about the amount of time you spend here. It is not just about the time you spend reading, commenting, and writing posts. It also means the way you look at people, places, and events with a different eye. You are now using Active Rain Eyes.
Places I've been many times have a new significace. They have become possible fodder for a post. And everything seems to be waiting to be photographed. Almost everything I see signals me to stop and give it a second glance. Maybe it is a sign, a mailbox, a tree, a horse, a flower, an old shed, a sunset, fishermen, boaters, my cat, my dog, an old truck, the list is endless.
Following a listing appointment yesterday, I was driving home and just as I was getting close to Lake Anna Nursery I thought why not stop, take some pictures and then write a post about it. Sounded like good information for Active Rain and Localism. Sure enough I took dozens of photos and spent some quality time talking to the owners' son who showed me around. Lake Anna Nursery is where I have been buying plants for my yard but have not been there in a few years. What a change. More about that when I finally write the post.
After leaving the nursery I continued driving home. For some reason I got thinking about our Tritoon which then got me thinking that I would like to write some posts about our local marinas. That certainly seemed like a good idea for a lake community. Of course, the best place to start is Sturgeon's Creek Marina where we generally go.
That taken care of I headed home. As I neared home I thought of The Barn, a convenience store very close to our house. Naturally instead of passing it by I stopped, had a chat with the owner and took more pictures. Another future post.

Hopefully this re-cap of my day will explain my need to leave the camera at home...at least once in a while. After all I all that stopping and starting makes a long trip out of a short one. I'm like a kid who doesn't know when to stop.
Isn't this a fabulous way to become a local expert? Isn't this a wonderful way to market ourselves on the Internet?
Active Rain has provided us with that forum.
Thank you Active Rain.

Kate-I carry two cameras with me almost 100% of the time. Today besides taking a picture of some trashed foreclosures I also stopped and took a picture inside a local general store. You are right that once you start blogging many things take on a different perspective. Even our family isn't safe anymore!
