Local Pastor to “Go for God’s Gold”
Grand Rapids Michigan, Cascade Township, July 21, 2008
New Day Church-on-the-Hill will be connecting church and society with 3 special worship services in August that coincide with the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games.
New Day’s Pastor, the Rev. Dr. Phil Johnson, is at home with competition. He has coached Olympic athletes, is himself a Master’s Gold Medal hurdler, and in this series will link Biblical wisdom and the spirit of the Olympics to address global needs.
A highlight of the first service, “Go for God’s Gold: Picture with Prayer,” on Sunday, August 10, will be church members and their Pastor running up the Church’s steep stone-steps to light the traditional ‘Torch.’
On Sunday, August 17, the theme is “Go for God’s Gold: Practice with Purpose” that will include the dedication of a new basketball hoop for the community.
On Sunday August 24, the closing day of the Olympics, the theme is “Go for God’s Gold: Perform with Passion.” Pastor Phil will practice what he preaches by hurdling on the church grounds. (The congregation is secretly praying.)
