All around North Carolina Retail stores are ready for the big weekend. The seventh annual tax free weekend for back to school supplies is once again expected to be a big shopping event. Parents are planning to purchase all the supplies they will need for a year and get that dollar bill as far as it goes.
This is the seventh year the state has allowed certain exemptions from its 6.75 percent sales tax. The holiday started at 12:01 a.m. Friday and continues to 11:59 p.m. Sunday. During that time clothing, footwear, and school supplies of $100 or less per item; school instructional materials of $300 or less per item; sports and recreation equipment of $50 or less per item, computers of $3,500 or less per item; and computer supplies of $250 or less per item will be exempt.
If you need that new computer or the new pink backpack now its good time to head out.
For you tax free shopping spree to be effective
•- Leave yourself plenty of time to shop this is not a good day to rush
•- Extra careful on the parking lot
•- Buy only what you need and as much as you need
•- Have a shopping list and make sure to mark off items as you get them
•- Check prices online before heading out and have a plan
Good luck and successful school year!
