Home Staging for me is a passion. After 18 years in the corporate world, I wanted to make sure that the next stage in my life would include doing something I love. To say I was determined would be an understatement. After concluding that home staging was right up my alley, I developed a strong business plan and haven't ever looked back. For me personally, I had something to prove. I had always dreamed of owning my own business; setting my own goals; defining my own strategies, etc... I'm proud of the success; I'm pleased by having assisted so many agents and home owners. Have I made it? Not hardly. I've only just begun (smile).

And now for the close ups. NOTE: All of the pictures below were taken by me with my Nikon D80. As part of my staging service, I provide the "after" pictures I've taken to both the home owner as well as to the Realtor/Agent.

I believe that you add a very valuable service to your clients, as most home-stagers do. I can tell by the pics that you really care what you are doing and put part of yourself into the job.

Donna - the key to great photography, I believe, is two-fold; one: use a great camera and two: practice. I typically take well over a hundred pictures which is the beauty of having a digital camera.

Kathy ~ Your photos really are spectacular. The angle from which you take them leads me to think you're on your kneees sometimes? If you ever get tired of staging you could easily have another career as a photo stylist. Thanks for sharing these with us.

Great staging and photos. My daughters bought me a new camera this past December, I love it, but it doesn't take the wide angle photos needed to look as professional as your photos.

Maureen B - You're right, some times I do get on my knees when taking photos. I find in doing so, you gain a whole different perspective of the room and/or furniture and accessories used. One of my goals this year is to take a photography course and as soon as time permits, I'm going to make that happen.

Debbie - Thank you. The camera was purchased at Circuit City. My husband actually picked it out having looked at several different make and models. I'll go and look at your post here in a bit and see if I can offer any suggestions.

Tanya - In my original design plan I had intended to use a sofa table in that window. However, I placed the tree there instead and I thought it was just perfect for that spot.

Thanks, Karen. To answer your question; yes and no. Most of the agents I've partnered with have a professional photographer that they use. For those agents/Realtors that don't I'm providing them with my "after" pictures. To-date, everyone has been extremely complimentary of the pictures and are using them in their MLS listings. Kathy: You know I am a big fan of not only your wonderful staging, but also your amazing photography. I have camera envy. I have a Nikon D40 with an 18-55 mm lens. I have dropped it enough times that I have totally screwed up the lens and I am now thinking of getting a wider angle lense that I can also use when I step up to a D80 or D100. My 10 yr. wedding anniversary is coming up. Isn't the gift for a 10 year anniversary supposed to be photography related? hmmm....

Hi Kathy, Fantastic photos, gorgeous staging = very happy clients - I am sure.. Yes - I love my current camera but need a wide angle.. I bought a v570 on Ebay but am having some problems with it - so back to square one.. I am getting pretty shaky at times and will have to start using the tripod more often - just takes longer.. I have a wide angle, which is what everyone recomended, but it's really not what I need for the details. They get lost in the picture. To me, the photos are the hardest part!

Kathy, beautiful work and great photos. They're so very crisp! I googled the Nikon D80 and found it available for $399 at several locations AND it said that it's a 18-135mm lens. Is that right? Since I can no longer wear classy shoes I can't have a shoe fetish so maybe I'll develop a camera fetish. I'm sure that your talent has a lot to do with it also.

Michelle - I think you'd be A-OKay getting a camera and/or lens for your 10th wedding anniversary. It's suppose to be tin (aluminum) but... I think if you dug deep enough into the lens there has to be some sort of tin (smile). Okay, that might be a stretch but... definitely worth a try. The lens that I used for the bottom 5 pictures is the Nikkor VR Lens (18-200mm). In the first picture, I used the 18-135MM lens.

Cheryl - I have two tripods but have yet to bring them with me to a job. The secret I have found that works well is two-fold; 1) hold your breath when snapping the picture and 2) take a lot of pictures of the same room/object. In doing so, you're bound to get a good one.

Cindy - My new lens (18-200MM) is really more of a zoom lens. However, in the first picture in this blog, I used the 18-135mm lens.

Ginger - Wow, that's an excellent price that you found for the D80 ($399.00). We purchased mine for around $1,200 new and it came with the 18-135mm lens. I just googled the Nikon D80 and found just the camera for $699. In summary, you're going to want to look at those carefully as that price seems really low. Definitely check out Ebay as you'll find some great package deals. Abes of Maine is another site that offers some really good package deals.

Aloha Kathy,

The photo quality is superb, great job! If I may make a suggestion about the faux Orchid's; With this type of Orchid(Dendrobium) the face of the blossom almost always aligns and orientates itself in the same direction as all the other blossoms. If you align the blossoms like the picture to the right, they will look indistinguishable from the real deal.

Kathy, I'm your newest fan! Your work is spectacular as are your photos. I love the arrangements, the colors, the choice of furniture and overall how everything is pulled together with the green apple color. The photos are outstanding and you can't blame it all onthe camera! I have to agree that the camera makes a huge difference, but your artistic angles are awesome too! I'm bookmarking this one!

Thanks, Cindy. The angles used do make a difference. I've learned to experiment with every project and will use a variety of different angles. What I don't do is to view the picture on the camera as I'm taking them. Instead, I just snap a few that I think will work and 9 times out of 10 I'm able to capture exactly what I was after. Wow Kathy! Your pictures are gorgeous. Michelle has camera envy - I have talent envy! I have the Kodak V570 and I feel I really never get good pictures (must be the operator!?!) I need to practice, practice, practice. I got an inexpensive tripod, but I think I'll try the breath thing and the many different angles. I should probably take a class too! BEAUTIFUL staging as well!

I have a tripod and Canon Rebel XT that I love. Next on my list of purchases is a wide angle lens and flash!
