One of my agents is listing a house for an active Marine that is being transferred to California from New Jersey.  Is the Marine entitled to relocation benefits or reimbursements?  I figured this Forum would be a great place to start since you all are a wealth of information.  Thanks in advance for any input you can give.

I have been retired from the Navy for 10+ years so what I say here will need verification. The Marine is entitled to having his household items shipped at government expense. The weight limit, etc is dependent on his rank. He should be dealing with a housing office at his base to arrange the move. On the other hand they used to have a do it yourself move option that allows one to move themselves and, if they save money over the allocated funds, make a little profit. I guess this is akin to sweat equity. He may also be entitled to a government funded "house hunting" trip. A lot of this is all dependent on rank, type of assignment, etc.

Gary, thanks for your comment and thanks for serving our great country.  Is the housing office a potential for listing and selling opportunities?

Usually the base housing office does allow you to "post" listings. Locally, here at Patrick Air Force Base, I have only posted for rent properties. Actually a great place to look for opportunities with the military is through auxiliary organizations near the base. The opportunities will vary by location as some bases have lots of base housing so there is less potential. I would highly recommend you visit the housing office and inquire as to anything you may do to support their efforts. I do get the feeling that they are reluctant at times to accept help as they want to avoid a "bias" appearance. Good Luck!
