land park traffic jamWarning. There are orange cones blocking lanes and work is still in progress on the ramp from southbound I-5 at the Biz 80 / Highway 50 interchange. When I headed out to Natomas from my home in Land Park this morning, I saw the cars lined up going in the opposite direction. I thought it would be cleared up by the time I returned four hours later, but it was still severely backed up.

If you're trying to get into Land Park from southbound I-5, I suggest you stay in the left lanes right after the J Street exit. The three right lanes are clogged. But the left-lane traffic is moving smoothly. That way you can get off on Sutterville, hang a right on Riverside and be home in half the time it would take to sit through that pokey traffic.

I'm glad the work is done on I-5, but I've also noticed that in the evening, I can hear strains of traffic now that I never heard before. Has anybody else noticed this? It never occurred to me that raising the freeway would allow the noise to travel into Land Park a greater distance.

I noticed that traffic jam today too.  Just got off on Sutterville.  Have not heard the noise yet.

Elizabeth, I hate bad traffic snarl days. Just wants to make you work from home ALL the time.

Hi Robert: I know, it was just insane! And I was stuck on the inside to the right lane. It took forever to pull out of that snail movement.

Hi Tom: Does this mean you are coming to Sacramento next week? Perhaps to Land Park?

Hi Gary: We've had our share of problems because they closed portions of I-5 for more than a month to raise the freeway. But then again, we have an entire portion of our city that was raised above the river. Sacramento is interesting. Especially the underground tour of Old Sacramento.

Traffic reports!  Never would have thought of that. Great idea!  I am told by relocation people that traffic in the Indianpolic area is nothing compared to Scramento traffic.  You all should head this way.  Be glad to help with your relocation!

Hi Pat: I just write about what I see and hear in Land Park. I wasn't expecting that pile up on the freeway, so if I can save another commuter the headache, it's worth writing about.

I try to avoid traffic jams as much as possible.  (But I guess everybody does.)  If at all possible, I take the back roads.  My husband doesn't like to do that, but it works for me...  :)

Hi Debi: When I drive to my office in Midtown, I often take the surface streets. I can shave 3 minutes off my 11-minute drive time if I hop on Biz 80, but often the ramps are backed up, plus we have a big mess where the traffic shifts to the left to avoid heading out 99, so only certain times of the day are good for the freeway.

I don't particularly like driving up the Biz 80 ramp to get on the freeway at X Street because that's where my neighbor was killed. He ran into the back of a stalled telephone cable truck a couple years ago.

Elizabeth - I'm sure your highways are much more clogged than ours.  Sacramento has alot more people than little ole O'Fallon, MO!  :)

Hi Debi: Honestly, the traffic in Sacramento is not bad, except for clogs near the American river. You want to see bad traffic -- you go to Orange County.
