While on a photography excursion to the quaint waterfront section of Hampton, known as Phoebus, I came across and shot a Heron I haven't seen in this area as often as I see the abundant Blue Herons and Great Egrets. The Heron I shot was a Yellow-crowned night heron, below is a juvenile bird:

I also shot this adult bird across Mill Creek in a tree:

One of the great things about living in the Hampton Roads area is the abundant wildlife and beautiful scenery.

Bryant, Great shots of the wildlife.  I have a heron that comes around our lake everyday.  I should dig out a few pics I have of him and post them.  Have a great day.

Great photos Bryant!  I live in Missouri and see Great Blue Herons on a regular basis flying over Kansas City.  Recently, I was in the Ozarks (Eminence, Missouri) and saw a different heron.  I'm still trying to identify it.  I wasn't able to take my camera on my intertube. :-(

Aloha Bryant,

Thanks for posting the photos. When I lived in Maine a beautiful Blue Heron would visit us during the migratory seasons. He would position himself roughly in the same place every season, right where the brook met the pond. "He" always looked so stately, so much, so that people mistook him for statuary.

Peace,

Mary-

Thanks so much for the nice comment, I use the internet mainly to identify wildlife, there are several good sites. Also Audobon's field wildlife guides are very helpful. You are correct camera equipment and water don't usually mix. One of my next big camera investments is in an underwater system as I spend alot of time in the caribbean and Kayaking here in the Southeast. Take care and have a great day!

Bryant, I saw a blue heron at the lake recently eating a fish.  I was so bummed that my camera was in the car.  We now have a new lens where I could have even got the close up.  Maybe next time.  I love your blue heron pictures.  Blue heron have always fascinated me.
