My youngest Poodle, Ridgewood's Starlit Coast a.k.a. Marilyn, now has four points.  She was shown four weekends and now has turned a year.  She also took reserve to a five point major in Orlando, Florida in June.  In Mississippi she won Best of Winners on a Thursday and then Best of Opposite sex on a Sunday all in June.  We are so proud of this girl.  She turned one year old on July 16th and so she is home now to grow more coat.  Growing coat is a tremendous challenge for me.  I am busy and generally don't have the patience that it takes to gently weave through spider webs in the coat to prevent matting and to brush out a re-band the locks everyday.  That is probably why handlers get so much for their time.  Since I am now about $7,000 poorer than I was, I have decided to rough it and grow coat at home until she is ready to show again.  So...you know what I'll be doing every day for at least four or five months.  I will post her win picture just as soon as someone tells me how to fix my computer to allow me to browse and upload pictures again.Ridgewood's Starliot Coast Best of Opposite win Poodle

I knew I wouldn't have to go far to find a poodle update.  Sounds like Marilyn is doing very well.  I wouldn't have the patience for all the grooming either, don't know how the doggies put up with it.  But where there's a will, there's a way.  I'm sure you'll do just fine Gayle.

Oh WOW, that is GREAT!!!! She is absolutely beautiful! It is tough getting those point to add up in the AKC!  I have an alaskan malamute that we show, actually I show him myself. I've take the classes at our local kennel club. Most of the malamute people show their own dogs around our area not to mention I would not let Zeus out of my site for a minute, we do not have children and my pets are my children. He started out as just a pet but our breeder needed at least 5 offspring championed to get Zeus' mother some type of merit award...not sure how all that works. We have only 3 points so far but we do not show when the weather starts getting warm...he is a ALASKAN malamute, his favorite place right now is on the AC vent. He is UKC championed already but that was fairly easy to do. Where do you usually show? Maybe we can come by and watch your girl in the ring.

Chris _ I don't know how the handlers do it.  I have been grooming her today.  So far we've had a bath and trimmed nails and feet (shaved).  That is about 4 hrs. and I am beat.  I put her in the carte and am going to run an errand and then I have about 2 hrs. worth of misting and drying and straightening, but, for $1000 a month I'll go through this once a week until she has enough hair to go out and finish her championship.  Handlers are expensive, but, worth it if they are good, especially with a Standard Poodle.

Jackie- I can't show  my own because #1 I can't do finish grooming well enough and #2 I can't run because of the MS so the dog would not show well.  We go to Atlanta several times a year. I don't know where my handler will take her.  I know the Brooksville circuit in Jan. in Fl. but other than that I'm not sure.  Our kennel club is having a show in  Sept.  I don't know how far you are from Chattanooga.

Hi Gayle,  What a great looking dog in her stance!

There is a lot of time spent on the grooming table! Our boy blew coat and looks quite naked compared to what he normally looks like. Thank heavens grooming a malamute does not take as long as the time you have to spend. We bath him about 4 to 5 days before the show because his hair turns fuzzy for the first 3 to 4 days after a bath. It takes my husband about an hour to dry him and the day of the show it will take me about 2 hours to get him ready. I'm going to go with a chinese crested next time! LOL  We live probably 5 to  6 hours from that area.

Gayle, that is terrific news!  I knew a poodle's coat took a lot of work but didn't realize it was such a tedious daily routine.  Get your computer fixed so we can see photos  :)

Gayle,  Can you put hair conditioner on the dog so that the hair is easier to comb out?  I used to use "no more tangles" on my daughter.
