The Vanessa Williams, Realtor Post.
(This post has been edited and is not the "original post." First, this post was to announce an SEO contest to nail the phrase "Vanessa Williams, Realtor." Now however, this post is my entry to the aforementioned contest."
Okay. Those of us- "in the know"- realize that ActiveRain has a lot of search engine "cred", as I like to call it, and that a properly-optimized ActiveRain page can help any Realtor, even Vanessa Williams. The Realtor that works on his or her blog regularly can find search engine success, practically guaranteed.
Anyway, I heard- and I honestly do not remember where- that "Vanessa Williams" is the number one searched for phrase today, 3/22/07.
So I started thinking... All of the best newsources have stories about her. She must be starring in a new movie or maybe something (good) has happened to Ms. Vanessa Williams today, but whatever it is, Vanessa is hot, hot hot in the search engines.
Why don't those of us that enjoy SEO have a little contest regarding the former Ms. America Williams? Wouldn't that be fun? Maybe the folks at ActiveRain can present the winner with some points. If they don't want to do that, I'll think of something. I've got a $50 Starbucks card that's just been sitting here. We will all work to nail the phrase "Vanessa Williams, Realtor" with out AR blogs.
Funny, thing, here is a Realtor that is named Vanessa Williams. This particular Vanessa has the top spot in Google right now. I doubt we can "knock her out", but I wouldn't even want to do that. I would rather our winner just takes second place. Since we are just screwing around, I don't want to mess with the "real" Vanessa Williams' real estate traffic.
"Vanessa Williams, Realtor" SEO Contest Rules. Contest Starts 3/22/07 - 3/24/07:
1. Absolutely no links to your posting from elsewhere. I will check for inbound links to your site daily, if any appear, you'll have to ask the webmaster to take the link down and have it down within 24 hours. If I do a WhoIs search and you are actually the webmaster, you're out. If the webmaster refuses to take down the link to your Vanessa Williams Realtor blog, than you are disqualified. If you already have links, that's cool. Really, what we are trying to avoid is anything that uses the Vanessa Williams anchor text to link to your post. Sorry. I know this stinks if you are actually innocent, but because the above situation would be very bizarre, we have to go with the idea that this is a "black hat" technique and that you are a big weiner.
2. No "black hat" techniques of any kind. Link farms and stuff like that- forget it. Don't issue a press release for goodness sakes. Vanessa hates cheaters. It's simple: Just write one post in your AR blog. Make it all about Vanessa Williams and use natural charm to find your way into the engines. I can't think of too many black hat type stuff that one could do with the AR platform, but I'll know it when I see it...and you'll know it when you're doin' it. This is really a contest about writing good search engine friendly copy.
3. Everyone has 36 hours to announce their intent. Like, by Saturday morning. Register right here, with a comment. You can not compete as a coward and than let us know your intent later on, when you have the win. Sorry. I know that is a very fast deadline and if you are reading this too late...well, announce your own SEO contest. That'll cheer you up. Please feel free to email me if you do have a contest. Or, just stick around here and I'll think of another one in a few days. Who needs Vanessa Williams anyhow? We could do this once per month.
4. Winner will be whomever is highest in Google for the phrase "Vanessa Williams, Realtor" on Friday, March 30th at Noon, EST. "Vanessa Williams" by itself will be too general, with too much competition. If we make the phrase a little odd, it is better. By the way, if someone else wants to suggest a different search phrase (since I am competing in my own contest), please, go ahead. I'm not opposed to anything. If we get enough interest we can change the contest at any point. Let's just have one and let's keep it clean.
The reason for the 36 hour rule: My site was just crawled by Google today. It'll be 36 - 48 hours before they crawl me again. I don't want to have an unfair advantage in this as the first site that was indexed. Right now though, if you get ta' typin', you will be equal to me. (If I get crawled first, I'll drop out.) Start fast! There might only be 4 or 5 of us, but let's do this.
This post is my unofficial AR Vanessa Williams, Realtor SEO contest post. I reserve the right to tweak it.
