I Meet Clients Every 2 Months In Springfield

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Executives

Every 2 months the Rotary Club of West Springfield assists the Fairfax County Hospital System with a blood drive at the Pohick Regional Library in Springfield.

We set up in the lobby, answer questions and register donors.  Over the past 3 decades I have sold a lot of real estate to and for people in Springfield.  It is not unusual for me to hear a "Hi Karen",  look up and see one of my clients entering or leaving the library.  It is a great opportunity to visit informally and to have them see me participate in community service activities.

REALTORS® have a history of community service.  My Rotary club is very active in Springfield, but we are not always in the public eye, e.g. when we read to hearing impaired children in a public school, host a Christmas shopping spree for underprivileged children or sponsor a dental clinic for indigent people.  So when we work at the library I frequently have "close encounters" with clients.  Just out of personal interest I checked the RE/MAX site today and was somewhat pleased to note that, of the 100,000 plus RE/MAX agents worldwide, 1,300 of them are fellow Rotarians.

Wonder why we only hold the blood drive every 2 months?  You can only donate blood every 59 days

That is great to be seen in the public eye, especially for community service which is great !  My wife and I really enjoy popping into clients while we are out to dinner or just shopping in the city or what not.  Is a lot of fun and very rewarding : )  We would like to have more time to be involved in the community... we try to go to monthly neighborhood meetings, but they are always the last thursday of the month and we have always been busy with closings and what not the end of the month.  But I think we should make the commitment to just to more of them !  Thanks for the post !

Community service does take time, but, to Arthur and me it is an aspect of our life that is as important as our other activities and we are in the habit of setting time aside regularly,  Karen

Karen I am so glad to see that you help out in the community like this. I donate blood here in Austin and it is very gratifying. I used to donate whole blood 6 times a year and then they started a Platelets program. It takes an hour and a half or so because they remove blood, run it through a machine to extract the platelets and they return the blood to your body. It takes longer but there is a high demand and it counts the same as a pint of whole blood. The really cool aspect is that you can donate 48 times a year. When I first found out I signed up right away because I was in a contest with a couple of people who lived elsewhere. By the time they figured it out I was already 3 gallons ahead! Next month I will reach the 25 gallon mark (and I did it to get over my fear of needles. OK. I went on too long...Thanks for a great post!

Russell,  Because of the time involved we don't do that at the library - people sign up as they come in the library, give blood and go about their business,  Karen
