In recent weeks photos have a been a source of attention, reaction in the ActiveRain blogisphere. These range from improper hosting, stealing and hosting. I am all for using images but there are some things that need to be thought of before random posting of images in blogs and comments.

1. If images are going to be use then make sure they are hosted correctly on image hosting company like Photobucket.com or your own servers. I recommended Photobucket.com in my Customizing Profile Blog because there are members on the AR network without their own website. I use my Advanced Access website to host all my images so bandwidth is not borrowed and I can format them to fit where I want them.

2. Images should not be hi-jacked, stolen or borrowed without permission from the original designer or photographer. Using someone else's images without permission is no different than republishing an article written by another author. Stealing is stealing and shouldn't be tolerated at any level.

3. The use of images is of some concern. Due to the nature of the ActiveRain Network, professional networking site, I find it distracting that blinky's, flashy's and rotaty's (I apologize for the lack of better terms) images are being used in comments and in blogs. If images are going to be used please try to limit them to quality images that have purpose in the network. An example is Eric Bouler's New Orleans Blog. By taking all his own photos and hosting them he has created an extension of his websites. They are professional, high quality and bring life to his blog.

I guess there could be an argument made against my ClustrMap in my profile comments. But the point is that images should be wisely as not to distract from the original post. I would hate to see ActiveRain morph into just another social network. Help retain the integrity of the network and protect IPR by using images correctly.

It seems to me that you are saying, my pictures, maps and whatever are ok - but your pictures, maps and whatever may not be. Are we going to have the picture police decide who's pictures are acceptable. Should we submit the pictures to a committee for a judgement before posting is allowed?

You know the committee thing will give us a Camel with three humps.

Perhaps we should all take a deep breath and step back for a moment. If you come to a blog that offends your eye there is a little button on your computer with a down arrow. Use it and move on.

In my humble opinion.

Everyone is just so upset over images and graphics. Makes me feel terrible that I have over used them to satisfy my creative inner self. I have been a member for just over a week and have already deleted several of my Blogs!

I now must go eat a carrot to enhance my eyesight for my evening of Blog reading "The Rainers".

Its not that the images are offensive but this relates to early discussions that were on blog topics. The AR network is a specific type of network, professional, and some of the images that have been showing up are just bandwidth hogs and bring no value, in my opinion, to the AR network. I have other social network sites and those sites are filled with images that flash, rotate and blink and after awhile it takes a long time to have pages load. It makes blogs not worth going to.

I don't find the images offensive just inappropiate. There are plently of good sites out their for people to creative with images and people should be respnosible enough to police themselves. The ClustrMap is a way for me to track traffic since AR doesn't provide stats to each of us. So this is way to know if I am getting hits and where they may be coming from.

If someone wants to use the images, be my guest, just voicing my opinion.

BTW Pam, its looks like your using a map from your local chamber of commerce. Last time I checked this was a copyright violation and bandwidth hijacking.

You Sir are a gentleman. I thank you. I have just read so much about the over use of graphics that I felt it prudent to remove some which others would be offended by. I am not insulted just do not want to put people off as AR is an extremely good marketing avenue. Again, thank you:)

Time for some banana cream pie, yum.
