Comment for a cause

I am ecstatic to see the number of comments I have received so far. i'd like to challenge commentors to donate just $1 a piece to Megan's goal on their own. Of course, please continue to comment and make me donate another dollar per comment.

----

I have started a campaign to raise money for Parkinson's Research on my website. I have decided to donate a dollar for every comment or trackback I receive up until April 16th. The full post can be read here.

The other day, I got an email from a friend who will be running the Boston Marathon this April. She works for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and will be running the marathon in honor of her grandfather. She is well on her way to her goal of raising $10,000 for the foundation (and it actually appears that she has surpassed it due to a matching donation). However, I’d still like to help her reach her goall.

For my contribution, I will be donating $1 for every comment or trackback left on this post - or any other post on my blog up until April 16th. I also encourage others to make their own contribution, which can be done online at this website - just $1 is a big help.

Please feel free to link to this post and make me open my wallet and again, I encourage you make your own donation as well. It can be very quickly using a credit card or PayPal.

Andrew I guess that's one way to get comments, pay for them.  (lol)  Good luck on your contribution and WELCOME to Active Rain too!

I am always up for helping a good cause!  Plus, I always had a crush on Micheal J. Fox as a kid...  Don't know if that ever went away.

Thank you for your willingness to help support research for Parkinson's Disease.  I'm sure Megan appreciates it as well. Best of luck to you and to her. Get ready to shell out the big bucks!

Hi Andrew & Welcome,

Great idea and we wish you success with it.  Hope you get lots of comments!

03/23/2007 02:41 PM by Pascack Valley Real Estate>> Lisa and Robert Hammerstein (Coldwell Banker)

Thanks for the comments. I think I am going to be upping the amount to $5 per comment otherwise it just won't be much of a donation at this rate. (Hmm...maybe I won't have to with the response I am starting to receive.)

Shanna, my girlfriend tells me how she had a crush on him as well growing up - I think a lot of girls did. We had a chance to meet him and see him speak at an event for the Foundation not too long ago. He's a pretty amazing guy and it was great to hear him talk about how much the medicine and research has done for him. He has written a great book, Lucky Man, about his life that will make you like him even more.

03/23/2007 02:58 PM by Andrew Maury (Bay Valley Real Estate)

Andrew-

This is a fantastic way to get donations.  Much luck to you.

Great idea and best wishes on your fund raising.   My office contributes a percentage from each closing to Childrens Hospital.    Its a volunteer program you aren't required to do but if you tell your sellers what your doing they appreciate it also.

Good luck with your goal.

Did you send this post to Michael J. Fox? He might  like more publicity..

Great cause and great use of the Active Rain.

My grandmother died of Parkinson's Complications.  I think it is a great cause.

My wife's great uncle has Parkinson's and even the doctors aren't all aware of how it changes their ability to help him with his ailments.

I hope you get to your goal...

I may come back and comment a few hundred more times :)

Thanks everyone so much. I am happy to see such a strong response. I am more than happy to be contributing to such a worthy cause and would like to encourage others to contribute just $1 each to Megan's cause, which can be done here. Of course, I'll still be contributing for every comment on this post or on my own website.

03/24/2007 03:54 AM by Andrew Maury (Bay Valley Real Estate)

Geordie Romer, of course i count double for commenting on both blogs. Honestly, I'd like to see the comment total keep on rising. And I don't mean to bug people, but I'd really be happy with just $1 per commenter it'd go a long way to help towards my friend's goal.

03/24/2007 04:22 AM by Andrew Maury (Bay Valley Real Estate)

Thesa Chambers -if that happens so be it. At least it's going to something worthwhile and helps raise some awareness.

03/24/2007 04:24 AM by Andrew Maury (Bay Valley Real Estate)

Carol Williams - I have read "Lucky Man" and I really enjoyed it. I saw him speak at an event in NYC for his Foundation as well. It was something I'll remember forever. It really seems as though he believes his purpose is to help fight Parkinson's and it's hard not to be inspired by him.

03/24/2007 04:30 AM by Andrew Maury (Bay Valley Real Estate)

David A. Podgursky, please do keep coming back and commenting more! I'll be happy to keep contributing.

03/24/2007 04:33 AM by Andrew Maury (Bay Valley Real Estate)

Again, thanks to all. I just picked out a few specific comments to respond to, but I appreciate every one of them! Of course, I'd still like to see more.

03/24/2007 04:34 AM by Andrew Maury (Bay Valley Real Estate)

This is very much like an open house in my area-in exchange for comments, the listing agent gives us a couple of bucks. Hope everyone beats a path to your post!

Please post this in Share because YOU Care group as well. Thanks : )

Hey Andrew,

Welcome to AR and be prepared to write a big check!  It appears progress is really being made in Parkinson's at this time and continued support with go a long way.

As a fellow marathoner myself, please give my best regards to your friend Megan.  She's at Stanford? I'll try to follow her progress (via tv) on Patriot's Day in Boston.  My own marathons (ten) have been non-qualifiers, anyone could do one.  But to do Boston, that's the real deal.

03/26/2007 12:14 AM by Orange Co. Real Estate~Lynda Eisenmann, Broker-Owner, Brea, CA (Preferred Home Brokers)

Thanks for the comments everyone! I've got over 60 comments so far between this post and the comments on my own blog. Jay Thompson mentioned that he made his own donation using PayPal, and I'm sure there have been a few others well.

Lynda - Qualifiers or not, 10 marathons is impressive! Megan graduated from Stanford last year and works the Michael J Fox Foundation in NYC now. Seems like quite a change in training climate.

03/26/2007 11:04 AM by Andrew Maury (Bay Valley Real Estate)

WOW!  This is fantastic!  Thank you so much to everyone who is posting in response to Andrew's great challenge - and to Andrew for the creative and incredibly generous idea!  I've increased my goal to $18,000 thanks to the amazing support I've received and am so appreciative of your help in this effort.   I'm not savy enough to put my link in here, but see Andrew's post above to visit my fundraising site and contribute on your own....take some of the pressure off Andrew (and his wallet!).  Also, if you have an interest in learning more about the work of MJFF feel free to contact me.

Thank you so much for the support and your help in getting me to Boston and us one step closer to a cure!
