The Ann Arbor Library is located at 343 S. 5th Street in Ann Arbor. We also have 4 branch libraries, Mallets Creek, Traverwood, West Branch, and Pittsfield.
All the branches serve anyone living within the Ann Arbor School District and others can join for a fee.
Mallets Creek Branch was opened in 2004, and was awarded the 2005 American Architects Award for Sustainable Design. It features solar heating, a vegetated green roof, natural lighting, captured and filtered storm water. Most of the materials used are from renewable resources. To read more about all the green materials and sustainable design, you can read here about the Mallets Creek Branch.
Mallets Creek branch is located at 3090 E. Eisenhower, Ann Arbor 48104
Traverwood Branch was just opened in June of this year. Located on 4.5 ac in the North East side of Ann Arbor, natural landscape was included as much as possible. A rain garden is located on the south side of the building, and reuse of harvested ash trees from the building site, natural light and waste water management was also used in the construction of the new Traverwood Branch of the Ann Arbor District Library.
Traverwood Branch is located at 3333 Traverwood, at the corner of Huron Parkway. See the wall for vegetation instead of concrete.
Pittsfield Branch is located on the East Side of Ann Arbor. It was opened in March of 2006, on 5.74 Ac of land on Oak Valley Drive. Also designed with sustainability with foremost of thought, it incorporates solar heating, convection cooling and recyclable and renewable sources of energy and materials. Cork flooring is used from the bark of the Cork Tree and will grow back.
