We went to the zoo today and I thought I'd try it out.  This is my first attempt at editing as well.  I shot about 11 minutes total and edited down to just over 2 minutes.  I found the software that came with the Flip great for editing, though I must admit I have no prior experience with any other editing software.  I brought the finished product into Windows Movie Maker so that I could add a title page.

The one thing I learned is that zooming creates a blurry image, so I won't be doing that anymore.  Other than that, I think it's a great little camera, and very easy to use.  I can already see many uses for it.  For example, I have a client that is interested in investing and he's extremely busy so previewing properties with this is ideal.

The size is very convenient, as well.  I'm happy I made this purchase!

Nice job.  When I see what everyone is doing with video I know it is only a matter of time before I have to go there too.

Thanks Gary.  Dive right in... it's fun, and great to see what it's capable of!  Looking forward to seeing yours!

Thanks Cindy.  It is exciting to see what people here are coming up with.  I like the video blog idea, too.  I think I will give that a shot at some point.

BOB, I'm just considering the purchase.  So where did you buy yours from?  I had heard Sams Club but went and did not find any.  I have also heard Amazon.

Hi Bob - Nice first video! Looks like the animals were cooperative today. If you don't have one already, Targus makes a great little tripod that you can pick up at WalMart for under $15. It's only about 8-10" when folded and extends to around 4'.

Bob-  I'm not in the market to buy anything new, right now, but the Flip camera is certainly on my list, for a future purchase.  Good for you, for staying up with the latest technology.

Marchel - I bought mine from Amazon.  I went to several stores first - Target, Walmart, Circuit City, Best Buy.  I think Best Buy had the Flip Ultra but knew nothing about the Mino, and none of the other stores I went to had either.  I read a review that suggested if you don't already have the Ultra, the Mino is the way to go.

Thanks John!  You know, went to the zoo early, which is definitely the key.  Yes, I've seen the tripod and it's on my list for sure!

Bob, good job for your first time out with your new Flip Mino. It takes practice and you will get better the more you use it. Good job!

Bob, thanks for sharing the nice video.  Does the Mino have an external microphone plug?  I'm teetering with getting the Mino, but really need external mic capabilities.  Keep up the good work!

Great video - the simple music makes it. Did the editing software make it fairly simple to edit as well as lay down the music track?

Impressive simple video - I'm hooked. This could be really decent virtual tours as your videography improves!

Thanks,

I love my Flip and so does my 6 year old granddaughter. It's so easy 'she's loving it!

Marilyn and Michael - Thank you!  I'm excited to see what the other possibilities are!

Terri - No, it doesn't have an external mic plug.  And I haven't used it for a "talking head" type of video yet so I can't speak to that, but the volume sounded ok to me when I uploaded the first group of clips.

2:10pm • #17

Dwayne - Thanks!  Yes, it was easy to edit, and once you select all the clips you want to use - you select the movie maker function and you can choose for Flip to add their music or select your own.

Norma - Good luck! :)

Joeann - Yup, with point and shoot, there are no buttons and knobs to fiddle with.  I suggested it to my friend as a birthday gift his pre-teen daughter.

Very nice for your first video.  I need to figure out what and how to be able to do this as well.

Does the Flip Mino come with the editing software?  If not what do you use and how do you get it?

2:41pm • #21

David - it does come with simple editing software that allows you to "cut" the clips you like and then create a movie using those clips and add music, but nothing more than that.  I've heard Final Cut is a good one if you want something more sophisticated.
