Sunflowers in Michigan

Sunflowers We were going to our lake cottage this weekend at Manitou Beach, Mi. and passed the most amazing sunflower garden. We were driving too fast to stop but on the way home, I made my husband pull over to get some photos.

There were at least 6 other cars doing the same thing.

When I think of sunflowers I think of being in college and staying up all night playing bridge and eating sunflower seeds. I also think of all the baseball games I sat at with my boys, seems like that is a stable with baseball players.

To see this field of sunflowers was breath taking.

I also think of the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh and his famous paintings of sunflowers. If you didn't know, the sunflower seed that we eat is the center of the flower.

Those are some awesome pictures. I love sunflowers!

Great sunflower photos. It reminds me of my trip to Tuscany last summer. Yes, there are vineyards on most of the hillsides by there are also fields of sunflowers. The beauty of it all kept my camera clicking too.

Missy - I too would hae asked my husband to pull over. A field of sunflowers must have been a lovely sight. Thanks for sharing.

Missy, what a beautiful garden! We saw a similar sunflower garden years ago outside Quebec City when we were on our honeymoon. Guess what flowers I brought home for my wife this evening -- you got it, sunflowers!

These are amazing photos, Missy. Aren't you glad you took to time to stop and snap them? There is so much we miss becuase we are too busy or don't take the time. I know that having my caremar with me all the time now helps me take that time to slow down...usually, at least.

Oh Missy this brought back memories. When I lived overseas every year I was fascinated with the huge sunflowers...fields of them. I had only seen small sunflowers before, and to see these flowers that were taller than me...well it left an impression for sure :0 Thanks for the memory.

Missy, Thank your husband for pulling over! These are great pictures....My daughter lives off of sunflower seeds! Salty here, too! I would love to see these. I bet is is beautiful!

We grow a few mostly for the birds and just north of Grand Rapids is a field of Sunflowers they are quite dramatic. Nice Photos.

Missy, sunflowers make me think of my childhood. I'm originally from Kansas and that is the Kansas state flower. I remember them growing wild in our back yard.

Great pictures, Missy. The fields remind me of North Dakota many years ago... nothing but sunflowers as far as you could see.

My mother used to grow them in our back yard when I was a kid....I don't think FL has that type of flower species.

Missy - those are beautiful! It's a gentle reminder of the wondrous sights we pass by every day and don't see. We really need to slow down ....

Missy, sunflowers, the official state flower for Kansas (where I grew up), were weeds. My parents used to pay my brother and I to pull them up so grass would be able to grow in the back yard. Our next door neighbor (a single mom in the 50's) let her yard go to seed, and while it looked as beautiful as your photos, my parents were ready for blood! We had no idea how delicious the seeds were.

Wow! Those sunflowers are gorgeous! I have never tried to gro any. I did see some like these once growing in a field in Canada. They are amazing flowers.

Missy, I never leave home without my bag of sunflower seeds- a very healthy food, great snack as you're driving hither and yon. Thank you Michigan for the bountiful crop!

I passed this field last week on the way to take my daughter to get two wisdom teeth removed in Ann Arbor. We have been making lots of trips to the dentist and these flowers must have just bloomed because we didn't see them before and you can't miss them! I thought it was so cute how they all face the same way, like hundreds of little sun worshipers all lifting their faces to the sky. It actually crossed my mind to take some pictures and blog about them here, but that's all it did was cross. Thats why you are such a great blogger and I not so much :)

I love Sunflowers and they are my favorite flower. I used to grow them in the sand in Florida as a kid..as an adult...I have always had sunflowers growing! Now that would be a beautiful site to see!

I love all those flower. Sunflower is my favorite flower, the meaning of this flower to me is: Hope Shiny Joyful and Never Give Up because it always face to sun. I hope one day i also have sunflower farm:)

Beautiful! I just took some pictures of the sunflowers my brother planted.... Haven't had a chance to post them yet, hopefully this week!
