Texas has over 130,000 beef cattle operations.
The beef industry in Texas is a 7.1 billion dollar business.
Within the last year, fuel, fertilizer, and feed costs have doubled.

-----------------------
This week, the nation's largest beef cattle short course is being held in College Station, Texas from August 4-6. In 2007, almost 1,500 beef producers were in attendance. In addition, over 100 agri-related businesses and trade show exhibitors annually attend the course.
The 54th Annual Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course will bring together the top beef cattle researchers, educators, and industry leaders "to address the most current issues," as well as to provide attendees "with cutting edge information" for use in beef cattle operations.
Personally, I am looking forward to the sessions that will be covering land owner issues, forage management, brush management, wild life management, grazing management, and of course beef cattle business management.
If you can't make it to the course, you can purchase a copy of the Proceedings - which is a copy of the notes from all of the sessions being offered. More information can be found at http://animalscience.tamu.edu/ansc/BCSC/index.html

There will never be orphan posts with the Knight around. Seriously Sondra, another excellent post on your part. Where do you find out about these events? I actually didn't know the beef industry was that big dollar wise, but this is Texas, and EVERYTHING in Texas is big. I love trade shows in all industries because from one place it is so time efficient to gather so much information from such a variety of companies. Have a good time at the sessions. Don't run off with any good lookin' cowboys. You're too valuable in the Real Estate world. : )
