Does anyone know the name of this flower? Is it unique to Arizona?

Have you found any flowers that bloom in the dead of night?

People who live in Arizona are referred to as a "Zoni".  Because of the cooler weather, "Zoni's" love San Diego!  However, most "Zoni's" who work just prefer to head to northern Arizona every Friday to enjoy the cool pines.  The trip from Surprise (Sun City Grand) takes about 2 hours.  Leaving the 100 plus degree weather and entering into the 65 degree weather is a delightful change.  The elevation is about 7,500 ft.Night Blooming Arizona Flower

I found this flower blooming at about midnight last night in Northern Arizona.  I believe that this plant is indigenous to Arizona and can be found above 6,000 ft. in altitude.  It grows on a vine and requires a substantial amount of water because I found it in creek beds.

One of our neighbors told us about the flower growing in front of our cabin.  The neighbor did not know the name of the flower but he has seen it at night when walking his dog. I've googled it and cannot seem to find its name.

Night Blooming Arizona FlowerI took these pictures at about midnight using my camera flash to catch the beautiful yellow flowers that were about 3 inches in diameter.  The flower did not have a fragrance.

I took these pictures of the same creek bed at about 10am this morning.  As you can see, there are no flowers in bloom.

Do you have any idea what kind of flower this may be?  Is it poisonous?  Why does it bloom only at night?

 Aloha and Mahalo!

Leolinda.

The flower you asked about is I believe is an Evening Primrose.  They do open at sunset and last through the night, as soon as the sun comes up the next day they close up.   They are really pretty.  We used to live down south of Tucson and there were a lot of them there.

Sandie, I had a hunch someone who lives in the area could tell me about this flower.  It is truly a state jewel.

Ihave this flower growing in a small patch in front of my apartment here in mayville, new york. We have bitter winters & usually, hot summers. at first I thought it was a weed & almost pulled it & threw it away. I'm glad I DIDN'T. THE FLOWERS APPEARED AT NIGHT STARTING ABOUT THREE DAYS AGO & HAVE YET TO STOP. THE BLOOMS ARE A BEAUTIFUL YELLOW COLOR. I KNOW NOW TO LEAVE THE PLANT ALONE TO GROW AS IT WILL. CAROL C.
