Stop the Presses -- Duct Tape Fails!

By
Home Inspector with King of the House Home Inspection, Inc. Home Inspector Lic #207
This might shock you, but here is a classic instance of duct tape failing. Is it possible? Yes, as every home inspector knows the worst thing on earth to do with duct tape is to use it to tape ducts. This was a flex duct from a laundry fan. At this home one bath fan, and this laundry fan were not venting out the roof. The reason, attic view, is readily apparent. The duct tape came loose. The offending duct and tape is at the left, the vent at the roof on the right -- it is feeling naked. Proper connectors, more like large cable ties, are much more effective on these flex ducts. If you must go with tape on any ducts, because your higher power makes you, use a metal tape.

Steve, I have gotten to the point if I see duct tape on these terminations I mention it failed or not----not a matter of "if" but "when":)

Amazing that the "Duct Tape" will stick to everything except Duct Work... HA!!!! At least we have found thousands of other "non-traditional" uses for it.
