BLOGGING POINTS - HOW IMPORTANT ARE THEY?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Wright Realty

As a fairly new blogger, I was a bit put off by some bloggers addiction to acquiring points.  Are they really important?  I got into blogging for a couple of reasons:  1. my business is a bit stalled right now and I wanted to jump-start it.  2. I like to write.  3. The networking and relational opportunities that are apparent in any community of like-minded people.  4. I enjoy a good read.  5. Some of the blogs are really funny!

Am I missing something here?  If the points are important I would like to know WHY and also HOW to get more points.  Do they have anything to do with Localism? My office manager said some preferential treatment is given on Localism for those point-heavy bloggers.

Points = ego (for some people).  I don't focus on points...but I can tell you that I get some comments about being "number one" in my local city...which I guess builds credibility with some folks.  But I think points are like profits...if you do the "other stuff" right (as in business, you do your marketing, follow up, touches with prospects, thank yous, networking, etc.), then your points/profits will follow as a result.  You asked a good question...I hope some of the AR wizards on here will add their wisdom too.  :)

Rose~ By reading and commenting on other people's blogs you get 25 points for up to 10 comments per day.

You can write up to 10 blogs per week and if they are at least 50 words you can get 200 points for each.

If a lot of people respond to your blog with comments you will get extra points also.

If you write a post that gets "featured" you get a extra 200 points.

If you invite someone and they accept your invitation AND put up their photo and good profile information, then you get lots of points for that.

That is all I can think of off the top of my head right now.   Vickie

This place is, indeed, highly addictive. However, I don't think it's that much different from Merchant Circle or any of the other networking sites where my partner and I are members. However, as my partner's wise old grandmother said, "You get out of something that which you put in."

I particularly like Active Rain better than others because of PPP&P: The people here are Pleasant, Positive, Personable, and Professional. I can't say that about many other sites.

Points are good.  Good content is most important.  Always play to your audience.  You want people to read your information and call you... write so they will want to read and call.  Points are a side benefit.

Points are important as they reflect how active you are in the community.  The more you blog, the more you get out of it.  So maximize your points and move up the ranks.  In the beginning, that was what drove me.  And don't forget, it's not all about the articles you post.  Make sure you comment on other's blogs.  That's how you develop the relationships with your fellow agents.
