Gary-Oh my gosh... I don't think I would have stopped at that yard sale. Then again, I may have and out of curiosity looked in that coffin. But if something had looked back, I would have run to my car....LOL Great photo..
My husband works at a major department store...recently someone tried to return what they said was a vase they purchased there, it turns out it was an dirty urn and on the bottom was marked 'palm mortuary'. This is too funny with the casket!
Liz: The funeral director had a surplus. Amazing. Just like houses, there's a price to sell anything.
Barbara: With Halloween out there, it is a fit for that use.
Carol: My aren't we punny today. You are in good spirits. I like that in my Carol :)
Laura: I would have stopped like you. Anything reaching out to get me, you'd never see me run so fast.
Mary: Returning an urn from a mortuary. Now that's funny. First possibly they steal the urn, or it was from some relative's funeral. Your husband should have asked for the sales receipt.
Gary, I"m going along thinking what a great post....reflecting on how much I enjoyed the movie Forest Gump, thinking about how much I like Tom Hanks in his various roles, and then the garage sale picture. --- That is shocking. Maybe they had a family member die, buried him/her only to find out that person had already purchased a coffin. That reminds me that my grandfather had bought one years before he died and had it up in the attic. (I always hated even thinking about it.) I wonder....was it used for his funeral? I don't recall my Dad or anyone else talking about trying to get it down and carrying it to the funeral home in the back of someone's truck. Yucky subject. Maybe this is just a nightmare from my youth and there is not really an coffin in my grandmothers attic. ....
I LOVE the last picture and the saying, "Always bloom where you are planted." It gets me back to thinking about the beautiful things in life.
Hi Sondra: Don't mean to disturb you between the Forrest Gump and the blooming plant picture with the coffin, but it was one weird photo and you had to wonder. Of course your grandfather story tops my measly photo. I don't think I'd want to go up in an attic if there was a coffin up there. Very creepy and it would give me nightmares too. Focus on the blooming, you are right.
I'm going to have to ask my Dad tomorrow so I can get it completely out of my mind. It is amazing how vivid of colors some flowers are when everything else is brown.
Sondra: You are right. In the desert, some of the most brilliant colored flowers crop up seemingly out of dead and barren brown dirt and nothingness. It is something no short of a miracle.
The coffin is pretty spooky Gary! Has to be a story there we just don't know about?? I am going to think it is a Halloween prop and think about blooming where I am planted. That makes me smile and think of Mary Englebright, the card illustrator. I love her cards-she has a great card "Bloom where you are planted" that I gave to my daughter the day she left for college. Nice memory for me.
Cathy: I always like that "bloom where you are planted" thought. It's great you gave that sendoff to your daughter.
Gary, is it possible they use to work at a funeral home? or still do? Did it sell? Oh my that would have been a turn your head around and look again, do a double take moment.
Gary: It was a Costco special. Grannie didn't like it. Either that, or they ran a funeral home and were liquidating leftover inventory, and some other household items at the same time.
Missy: Could have been former funeral home workers that owned the inventory and just wanted to unload something in their garage. There had to be some story there. It would make you wonder as you walked up to the house. What is it with these people?
Chris Ann: A Costco special, that's great. Could they not take it back? Maybe it was too late LOL.
Hi Gary!
The seller is probably an owner of a funeral home. It's a floor sample special. Yikes! Thanks for the laugh.
Catherine
Catherine: Selling floor samples on the front yard?? Maybe they went out of business.
That is a hilarious photo.... back story... hmmm... perhaps he bought it hoping to flip it for a quick profit before the first payment was due?
Oh My Gosh Gary how funny. and strange. Hopefully the "owner" wasn't buried without it. YUK!
Gary, I have never seen one of those outside of having a funeral. Maybe they purchased it for a Halloween party or decor. Oh, maybe the owner is a hoarder or maybe it was a part of a barter deal?? It would really be interesting to find out the scoop on this one.
Jesse: Flipping coffins. Is that a new investor category??
Jacqueline: That was my thought where the owner went a different way like cremation and they didn't need it.
Teresa: If we only knew the real story. And there is a real story. You had some good ideas for possibilities there.
Maybe they mistook it for a "planter" when they bought iit - that was weak, I know - Karen
Karen: I guess it could be a planter. Kind of a "big" planter LOL ; )
