My Meme. More Than You Wanted to Know

By
Real Estate Agent with Atlanta Communities Real Estate Brokerage GREC #208281

I was meme'd a few months ago and didn't participate. I was kind of new here and didn't feel comfortable sharing yet.  I guess it was my natural shy character holding me back again.  Jeff Belonger was kind enough to meme me again.  So here I go with 5 things about me that you wouldn't really know from Active Rain.

1. I've always been a shy and quiet person.  I think it started when I was pretty small and had trouble pronouncing some words.  When kids laugh at you for the way you talk you find it much easier to just be quiet.  I worked at it over the years and eventually got over it.  I used to have a  fear of public speaking but now I find it quite enjoyable.  People thought I was nuts for going into sales.  How could a shy, quiet guy like me make it in sales?  I learned to use that difference to my advantage.  So if I can do it, anyone can do it.

2. I grew up in a family of seven kids.  I'm in the middle.  We were some of the last people to get indoor plumbing.  I still remember the outhouse with the flies and the bees.  So I really appreciate the little things in life  like a nice clean toilet inside.

3. I never read much until I was 25.  I was single, living by myself in Baltimore, and had a lot of time on my hands.  I decided that I would try to find the secret to living a good life and the secret to wealth.  I'm still on my journey and am learning every day.  To me, every book is a little treasure.  I must have over 1000 books on my shelves in the basement.  I focus on religion, philosophy, metaphysics, health, politics, marketing and money.  There are so many interesting  things to learn about that I don't care to read fiction too much.  My favorite fiction book is "Atlas Shrugged".  Probably the most interesting non-fiction book has been "The Tao of Physics".  I also love an old book called "The Law" and of course "Think and Grow Rich".

4. My philosophy is "Don't Worry, Be Happy".  I believe there is a reason for everything and I have faith that it will all work out one way or another.  I believe we all have a purpose.  I hope I'll eventually find mine.

5. My kids are geniuses and have a great sense of humor.  I always was afraid that I would have dull, boring kids like me.  I guess they take after their Mom.  I really can't imagine kids being any more interesting and fun to be with than my 8 year old son and 9 year old daughter.  I learn things every day by being around them.

There you have it.  Now you know more about me than most of my friends.

I'd like to Meme George Tallabas , Amber Riviere, and Rob Robinson

This is so good.  I too am shy but no one believes it.  I have learned to force myself out of the box.  I became a public speaker for 25 years.  Yes it can be done if one puts their heart and mind into it. Just like you did.

I too love to read.  I have all of Ann Rands book and just loved them, I also like the spiritual book, well books period.  I read everything I can get me hands on.  Yes, even fiction. I have read Gear...all of them.  Historical fiction and he is great.

I love your philosophy, couldn't be better! And yes, I'm sure your children are geniuses, after all look at their father. :)

Great MEME.

Raising my hand, another shy person.  Another reader although I'll read nearly anything.  I've used an outhouse, too.  Ours was at a family camp, not home, but flies and bees?  Check.  Thanks for sharing!

Tim-I love you post.  I am one of 7 kids, the youngest daughter but the middle child.  I agree I appreciate the little things in life and can relate to anything that has to do with the bathroom.  We only had one growing up, after we all moved out my parents put second one in. I love reading as well, one of my favorites is Wayne Dyer, anything Wayne Dyer.  Life is a lot easier with that philosophy.  I too have the same thoughts.  I always liked your writing but really love this post.  Thanks for sharing.

I guess it's good to be meme'd.  You figure out that you have a lot more in common with others than you'd probably think.  I used to be very shy, too, and it was miserable.  I missed out on a lot because of it.  I still feel shy sometimes, but I think I hide it much better now.  I'm also an avid reader, and I prefer non-fiction, too.  Life is better than fiction.  :-)  With a "Don't Worry, Be Happy" philosophy, it's hard to be stopped.  Even the song can turn a bad day around. Great meme, Tim!  I'm getting to work on mine right now.  :-)

When I was young I wasn't just shy...I was flat out introverted! I had to "grow up" and found that I just had to learn how to be happy with who I am (not what other people thought of me) Now? I don't hide a darn thing and I can have fun all by myself. (let's not talk about how I talk to myself and answer too!  HAHA! Joke) I found that if people didn't like who I was then they were probably people that were not open minded and people I did not want to be around anyway. Reading?  I collected toooo many books over the years so I finally "parted" with them and gave the majority (99%) to shelters etc. They were all spiritual books (inner peace stuff) and found that I could read all over the internet without cluttering my house and still learn about me.

Tim.... now, was that so bad?  ;o)   Seriously though, thanks for sharing this. As several have mentioned, this was good to get to know a little more about you. And you shared more than many of your friends would have known?  wow...thanks for sharing.

Tim:  Truly enjoyed your meme, I am quite new to AR and was also just meme'd....kept it (members only) Hmmm.....maybe I should change that!  I have to mention, I tried to freeze my children every year for I so enjoyed all their new stages in life, and still do, at 14yrs and 20yrs of age!  They just keep on getting older though...and the fun continues.

Thanks for the comments.  It looks like I connected with other shy people.  It's funny.  I'm still pretty quiet but I have no fears about talking about anything any more.  I find that some very extroverted, talkative people usually have many more insecurities and fears than I ever had.  When you realize that everyone is worried about the same stuff, it some how makes it easier to be open.

Therese, you are right about wanting to freeze your children because you think that it can't get much better. But every year seems to be the best year so far.  I just went to a Girl Scout Daddy/Daughter dance.  It was a cowboy theme and I just couldn't get over how cute my girl was.  I'll post a picture later.

Tim... looking forward to that picture. I don't have kids.... and I have wanted to freeze my nieces and nephews, but you are both correct. It does get better..... thanks again for sharing.

Tim,

For a shy person you did very well writing about yourself. I am not shy but I am having a hard time thinking of what to write about myself!
