Interest rates - Texas veterans

The new interest rates for loans through the Texas Veterans Land Board for this week are as follows:

5.98% Base Rate applies to all loans with a term greater than 15 years.

Available Discounts to Base Rate*
Discount for loans with a term of 15 years or less: -.25%
Qualified Veterans with Disabilities Program Discount: -.35%
Qualified Service Era Discount (Restricted Pool): -1.52%

I recently met a veteran and a nurse at an open house. We began working together. She was pre-approved with her credit union under a special program for nurses. When I discovered she is a Veteran, I asked her if she had looked into a VA loan. Her response was - "no, they are a pain in the @#$% to deal with." Really I said - how so? Long story short - we are now in escrow scheduled to close on a VA loan with 100% financing. When all is said and done she will have significantly more money in her cash reserves after the close than if she had gone with any other loan program. She was approved in less than 24 hours and the process, thus far, has been smooth sailing.

Kathleen that's great. Thanks for your comments. Here in Texas it is even better as our veterans state loan program is a supplemental program which discounts rates even lower for our state veterans. I wish more states had a program like ours. Thanks again for your comment.

Great information Ron, I think people tend to forget what a great opportunity the VA programs offer, and in my opinion it is a well deserved option for our Veterans.
