A lot of us on ActiveRain like to brag about the team atmosphere and helping each other out when we have questions.

Well, I need your help in a big way-

As I just told another Broker, this is a Humanitarian thing, there's no business involved.

I just talked to an 87 year old man who's home is about to go into foreclosure- in addition to that his credit card bills are huge.

He lost his wife to cancer and the bit of money he had left was scammed out from under him around October of last year.  I've never seen a siuation as bad as this outside of a movie.

Yes, I know, 'everybody' has problems - this is bigger than that.

This gentleman is a decorated World War II Veteran (Navy Air).

Does ANYONE know of any Private or Government groups that would be able to help this Vet out?

This guy puts his life on the line for his country for years, a bigger sacrifice than most of us can even imagine - now he needs some help back.

The US Government helps out all over the world - I hope they can step-up and take care of one of their own.

ADDITION: I just talked to the man a little while ago- Nothing but dignity. He told me "I know it'll be rough for a little while but I've been through worse!".

One place to look is Navy Relief.  I know that they help the families of active-duty Sailors.  Also, the Veterans Administration.  They, despite their sometimes blemished reputation, can really help out in a pinch.  Don't forget about your Senators and Representatives, both on the Federal and State levels.  Good luck!

Hi, Marc.  I don't know of anything but just wanted to give moral support.  Good luck finding this guy some help.  Thanks for doing that for him.

Roger-

Thanks- I already called the VA - I'll be trying the others next.

I too want to give moral support.  The sacrifices of the entire generation should be held up on the highest level.  The hardships and personal fortitude is something that should be very motivational for all future generations.  I am sorry to say that I think the Naval Relief fund is for active duty and retirees.  Best of luck to this gentleman.

Sarah-

Thanks - if you should come up with anything please let me know.

Patrick-

"The sacrifices of the entire generation should be held up on the highest level." - Exactly!

It's so sad that someone who has given so much of themselves for this country cannot be taken care of the way they deserve to be,  I bet your Senators would be willing to step in and help out, as Roger stated.  Please keep us posted on your findings.

I don't know anything about military.  Maybe you can search the AR blogs for the term military?  There are a lot of agents that work by bases and may have a go-to guy.  I am over 2 1/2 hours drive from any base.  I'm at a loss.  How much is he behind?  What is the total mortgage?  Is there some way there can be a grass roots effort for a collection here on Active Rain?

Jim & Maria-

It drives me crazy to see someone give so much - then they need something and the best the country can come up with is 'Sorry'.

I'll certainly let you know how this unfolds.

Chris-

I talked to some Navy guys yesterday - they were sympathetic, but didn't know what to do.

The collection would be great and I'm sure quite a few people would help out, but the total $ is way too high.

Retired Army here...Contact Army Emergency Relief (AER), They provide loans and grants to all services, active and retired (or they did when I left the service in 2004, things may have changed with the ongoing fight, and the hardships it has caused for active folks)

The Navy may have an organization similar to AER, and don't rule out DAV, VFW etc.  The networks within those organizations include a pretty broad demographic; I am not suggesting a fundraiser, but maybe a vet friendly investor who would buy the property and allow the current owner to stay for awhile.

Good luck with your noble cause,

Phil

Phil-

Thanks Phil, I appreciate your input and I will certainly check those places out.

The Red Cross is the agency that I have always referred civilians/family members too.  They will be affiliated with the nearest AER sort of group.  Most people don't realize that when our troops get into trouble, the govt. dosen't bail them out; typically, non-profit volunteer groups like these are the only relief ageny available.
