What do Mario, Luigi and Real Estate have in common?

The first thing that may come to your mind when asked this question is the simple fact Mario and Luigi were plumbers and all houses need plumbing:) My thoughts on this are at a very different level. This was my favorite video game as a kid and I used to play it for more hours than anyone should play one video game. So what does this video game have in common with our world of Real Estate.

Depending on the area that you are in and the price range that you work you are probably experiencing multiple offer situations. You are in a position that requires you to ask your buyers to act fast. The buyers in many cases are doing this for the very first time and there is something intimidating about moving fast on such an important move in one's life. It may feel like they are traveling at warp speed.

Warping was the quick and easy way to pass over levels, to skip over the details of the game and to get the end. Generally, the end is what we are all looking for. In our world the end is a closing. The sale has been made and checks have been distributed. Don't get me wrong this is a very good thing. Where I am taking this is the enjoyment is in the details of the transaction. The enjoyment comes with walking our clients through the process and delivering a pleasurable experience that will result is referrals and repeat business.

For those of you who had the chance to play this wonderful game you know how much there was in the game when you did not warp. In fact, one level provided the opportunity to get unlimited lives. When we rush to the fininsh line and warp passed things we often miss the very thing we were meant to see. Many individuals may be going through a difficult time is Real Estate right now and that check is of the utmost importance. That check may represent your mortgage, bills etc. However, our job is a job that cannot be rushed. It may cost future jobs. Warping may cause you to miss the very elements that make the game the game and our career our career.

Next time that you catch yourself warping through a transaction or life try to remember that opportunity lies within each level of the game. Take your time and enjoy every aspect of the game and the rewards and the sense of accomplishment you get when you reach the end will be far greater.

This applies to our life as well. Don't rush through it looking for the next stable ground. There is no such thing as stable. Cherish the character building that goes on within each level. New experiences that shape the whole game and the whole you.

Well, your comment about playing the game way more than anyone should play a video game reminds me that I work way more hours than most of my friends in other professions.  However, the more time I spend at it the higher the level I get to.  Only one complaint about your post----now I have that dumb music playing in my head for the rest of the day! :-)

Pat - Thank you. I thought of it at Breakfast with a friend while discussing the book by Rick Warren Purpose Driven Life. Enjoy your day as well.

Lisa - Thank you for your comments. Keep up the good work.

Pat - Buy the WII and the working part may change. I have not played a video game in years but I certainly remeber the jingle. Maybe you can make it your Ringtone:).
