For you music lovers, and especially you opera buffs, the Met is within driving distance from New Jersey, and depending on where in New Jersey you are located, it's even easier to take the train. For those who can't make it there in person, here's another way to enjoy it...
The Metropolitan Opera (the Met), of New York city, has an official web site that is worth a visit, whether you are an aficianodo or know nothing about this form of music. Make sure you check out their MetOpera database (to access from home page, click on "Met History", then MetOpera Database) which contains records of over 26,000 operas and related information.
Accord to the Met, their "Met History" section contains "sounds, images and text [which] illuminate the sweep of Met History from the formation of the company in 1880, the first performances in 1883, through to the [most recently concluded] season. Designed to entertain and inform, this story of The Metropolitan Opera is told with text, photographs and designs; brief audio clips offer tantalizing glimpses of great artists and refer the listener to the original recordings."
In the MetOpera Database, "search through this up-to-date chronicle of every Metropolitan Opera performance since 1883 for complete information on all performers, operas and ballets at the Met. The Database also includes photos, designs, reviews, statistics, and chapters on great events. It is accessed in Met History."
And best of all, these resources are free to the online visitor.
