Here is a cool yet addictive new feature that has just been provided for Baton Rouge... "Street View" in Google Maps! Although this has probably been around for major cities, Baton Rouge is just now catching up and I'm catching on!

Think Google Earth but at street level and 360 degrees! If your town does have access to Street View (go check now!) all you have to do is:

1. Go to maps.google.com
2. Enter the address & city of what you are searching for
3. When your targeted location comes up click 'Street View' within the box
4. From here you can get the full 360 degree experience by moving up and down the street and turning around

What a great tool for adding an extra 'pop' to your Localism posts!

1. After going through the above steps, keep your location you want to post about in view
2. Click the 'Link' Button above the map
3. Click 'Customize and Preview Embedded Map'
4. Click on your desired size (for posts I would recommend small)
5. Then copy and paste the HTML!

Here are a few examples for Baton Rouge:

So go have fun with this awesome new tool and check to see if it is available in your city!

Not sure why but trying to view your blog page brings my computer to it's knees so I can't see your images.  I do remember checking out Street View for our little Kauai a while back and discovered it isn't implemented here yet.  I hope it's coming soon!

I could view your photos perfectly and now am going to try our area -- I've used google earth but never thought about using it for this type of application -- thanks for sharing a great idea!

This is a really neat thing.  Not exactly sure how to incorporate it into localism, but I am going to see if this is available in my neck of the woods.

Dave-  I hope you enjoyed your trip to Baton Rouge! :) And not only is it easier than flying it's much more stress-free!

Richard- I'm sorry about that!  I hope you'll check in later to see if it is working because it really is cool, I know sometimes it takes longer for them to load and I'm trying to work on that.  Any suggestions?

Margaret-  I'm so happy it worked for you!  And I hope you can use this in the future!

Troy-  It is really awesome!  Incorporate it into Localism by putting it at the bottom of a blog where you're featuring a restaurant, park, event, etc.  This way they can see what it looks like and also be able to easily click it to access a map to the place.

Wow, I wish they had that for my town. They don't yet, but maybe someday. I'm jealous.

I did give this a try and there were some shots available in some areas, some nearby and some had no information available.  This was great -- now just to try and remember to use it!

Leslie- I'm sorry they don't have it for your city yet but I hope it comes quickly!  Try out Google Earth while you're waiting!

Margaret- Definitely put it on your things to remember!  The possibilities are endless!

Toni, I could view your pics perfectly!! That is really neat. I'm going to check it out and see if it's available in Central LA (though I doubt it!).

You are always in the KNOW! Thanks for sharing!
