My wonderful fellow Active Rainers have certainly inspired me to see the light as per a recent blog I posted about vacations and when a Realtor ever gets to take one. I will be taking my family on some sort of trip before the kids go back to school. Now the decision of where to go, what to do, where to stay, etc. My young kids seem to melt down and become impatient on very short trips (anything inside of 2 to 3 hours). So, we're exploring options that might include driving to any destination point within 3 to 5 hours from Greenville, SC (my kids will just have to survive the trip!). We were going to visit family in Michigan, but that's a 10 hour drive from Greenville, or a half way drive, overnight hotel stay, and then finish the second half. This option chews up vacation time and adds hotel expenses. We could go south to Charleston (any good campgrounds that are fun for the kids there?), West towards Atlanta (Six Flags waterpark?), North towards TN and "Dollywood". Something tells me that a trip to Disneyworld might be more stress than a vacation. We might need a vacation after our vacation to Disneyworld. We haven't journeyed out from Greenville on a 3 to 5 hour regional road trip vacation. I'm all ears if anyone happens to have any great advice! Thanks!
Kirk--When my boys were younger we took a 2 day road trip to visit relatives. It was before DVD players so we bought one of those tv/vcr combos with a car adapter and 5 new videos...Best investment ever! If you don't have a DVD player for the car...invest in one. BTW we did our first WDW trip when the boys were 6 and 8. Perfect age for the older one but the younger one had trouble with waiting in the lines. If you do WDW, stay on site so that you can use the Disney transportation and the dining plan is well worth the money if you want to do character dinners etc. Wherever you go...Have fun!
