Polaris is starting to feel more like Easton... or at least the south-east corner of Polaris Fashion Place is.  The Cheesecake Factory at Polaris is open, but it is more than the two "malls" having that restaurant in common.  I went over to check the other night... not to eat at the Cheesecake Factory just to see more what the south-east corner of the mall would be like.... the part where the Kauffmans store was.

The $45 million outdoor lifestyle center addition at Polaris Fashion Place is due to oen this fall. The Cheesecake Factory is open.

A "lifestyle center" is not an enclosed mall, it feels like an old fashioned street, kind of. What other stores are opening in the "outdoor lifestyle center" addition at Polaris? Schakolad Chocolate Factory which was located in the Short North on The Cap will be at the Polaris Outdoor Lifestyle Center. Schakolad Chocolate Factory has temporarily relocated to the Polaris Fashion Place Mall... and will move out to the Lifestyle Center.  The Barnes and Noble at Polaris Town Center (south side of Polaris Parkway) is moving across the road to the Lifestyle Center at Polaris Fashion Place...The first Benhana's restaurant in Central Ohio.. and a "Destination Maternity" a superstore of maternity stores all in one are also new tenants at Polaris.  

The Polaris Fashion Place Mall opened in 2001.  When Federated Department Stores and May Company Pixelated Cheescake Factory merged a couple of years ago the Polaris Fashion Place Mall had a Kaufmanns and a Macy's  (I almost said Lazaruz...) Federated closed the stores in the Kauffmans chain.  Rather than try to find a department store to move in to the mall, Glimcher which owns and operates Polaris Fashion Place opened that space up and added on in the form which is now starting to be known as the Polaris Outdoor Lifestyle Center.

Good for you that you now have a Cheesecake Factory.  The food is quite good.  One opened in White Plains, New York several years ago and is constantly busy.  So busy in fact that they give out beepers if you wait for a table and beep you when the table is ready.

These outdoor malls are very popular here.  They are part of a residential community and many home owners can walk to the shopping which is a real benefit.  Somehow, it's a different atmosphere when shoppers walk outside to the shops than when they are in an enclosed mall. 

I suspect that folks spend more money when in an enclosed mall.

We have them being built all over the place especially since our area is always warm and sunny all year round..I'm sure it will draw more people there and I love the Cheesecake Factory.

Sounds like a neat concept Maureen.  We don't have anything like that here now.  We used to have one with open areas in NJ when I was young and they closed it in during the 1980s to make a mega indoor mall.  I like the open feeling and the hometown flavor.

There is a Cheesecake Factory at Easton (north-east Columbus inside 270) but I have never ate there.  I don't go to Easton much.  I did the first year or two it was open and it was fun.

We had an open air mall on the north side of Columbus called The Continent.  I had heard about it when I lived in Dayton.  When I moved to Columbus I was disappointed by it. The Continent  failed during the 90's and is making somewhat of a come back.

Thanks for the comments all.  Neal I know I wonder why we have outside but even at Christmas time it is kind of fun to run around at Easton as long as the weather is NOT real bad.
