How to determine if a social networking site is right for your business.

If you're on the web long enough eventually you'll get an invitation to join an online social networking group.  How do you determine if that group is worth your time?  First you should look at the members that are already a part of the network.  Are they your target market?  If not, then I don't think you should spend much time on that network.  Also look at what the people are doing on that network.  If all of them are trying to sell something, that's another sign that you may want to avoid that network.  Your time is valuable.  You don't want to waste it belonging to a social network that isn't going to benefit you in some way in the long run.

This is very true, we definitely have to weigh the cost benefit of our efforts. That said, there are some sights that get only minimal attention from me, while I use blog feeds to keep fresh content. I want to be in as many places on the net as I can, so not all can get the kind of attention I pay to AR and a couple of other blogs and at least one social networking site.
