While the town of Shasta, CA (a.k.a. Old Shasta) is best known for its Historic State Park, more and more people move to this small unincorporated community of Shasta County. At one point, Old Shasta was an important commercial center and a major shipping point for mule trains and stagecoaches serving the mining towns and later settlements of northern California back in the mid 1800's.

With a population of less than 1,000, Shasta is becoming more popular for those who seek to build their own custom home on 2+ acres with total privacy and views. You can buy a 2-5 acre property with gorgeous views for about $180,000. Another reason it's gained popularity with buyers (locals and out-of-town) is it's proximity to Redding. Located just six miles West of Redding off HWY 299, Shasta is perfect for those who prefer to be close to the lake (Whiskeytown Lake) but not too far from the city.
