Recycle Tampa...Stuff those blue boxes!

The City of Tampa's curbside recycling program underwent an expansion last month.  When landfill space is a premium and sustainabiltiy is a key buzz word recycling is receiving more attention than ever before. Recycling saves tax dollars, the city has to pay for that landfill space.

For those who found recycling frustrating about what to put in and what to keep out the process has become easier.  The following items can now go in those blue curbside boxes: phone books, paperback books, junk mail, cereal boxes, 6-pack soda boxes, office paper and cardboard.

In addition the following items remain filler for those boxes:

  • Plastic bottles (numbers 1 and 2 only)
  • Aluminum and steel cans (including empty aerosol cans)
  • Gable-top beverage containers (juice & milk containers)
  • Glass bottles & jars (all colors)
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers & inserts
  • Catalogs

If you have trouble remembering what is in and what is out "Curb It" is a link with a visual reminder.  And as I found out, if you need an additional blue box, the city is happy to provide you with that 2nd box.

That little blue box can help create a greener Tampa!
