Do clients really want one stop shopping? (Is it really in their best interest)

By

Coming from  a couple of big firms who kept telling me about all of the studies that show that buyers and sellers wanted one stop shopping I had to ask myself is that what my clients want or the companies I am working for want?

They kept pushing the mortgage companies (they owned), the title companies (they owned) and even warranty companies (that gave them a little bit of money) and I began to wonder whose best interest were they really looking out for?

At the first company I worked for, the owner told his new agents if they get a company referral and the client uses a different mortgage company than his, we could expect a call from him to see why and if it became a habit you would not see anymore referrals.

As I have grown as an agent in experience and the great people I know, I realize that you will meet people in every profession who are looking to make all they can on each and every client they meet and then there are those who are looking for a win-win hoping to win clients for life and referrals at the same time.

Those are the people I keep on file and am sure to give to my clients if they need somebody in that field.  That is really what clients want.  They want us to know some good people if they need them.

I get nothing out of it except knowing they will be taken care of and that the people I work with are a reflection on my team and company.

When you combine services, real estate, lending, title, and appraisal, either by a single agent, single company, common ownership of companies, or dependance for bussiness on one company you lose the checks and balances built into the system!

Caveat emptor!

I don't know about that but there could be some problems.  I have seen it work but then I am not at the top levels to see if there are any problems.

I also worked at first for one of those old companies that pushed the "one stop shopping" to us as new agents.

We got NO credit for recommending the company people from any of the higher ups, or even our BIC.  While the individual lender in our office was great, I had no idea who the other people were, and eventually left the company.

Seems like it would be too iffy to be worth the risk, in my book.

turtleThe customers do love it if they feel like all parties are taking care of them. I have worked for mortgage companies owned by real estate, title companies owned by real estate companies that also owned mortgage companies and stand alone companies. You must look at each company and ask are they doing a good job for the customer. if the answer is no then no it is not good for your customer but if you can say yes then I feel it is good for the customer. I have seen good, bad & ugly in all areas. Great post. Have a great week-end! Brenda:)
