A Pilot's License Is A Freedom License

If your flying experiences amount to several trips inside a pressurized metal tube hurling through the air (i.e. an airliner), then you won't be able to relate to this.  If you have NO flying experiences, you won't be able to relate... but I hope you all can visualize.

I write this to share with you what a joy it is to have a private pilot's license.  Getting from point A to point B became a lot more fun for me when I passed my checkride and became a newly-minted pilot a few years ago (2002).  Now, I could travel in three dimensions.  I'm still waiting on the fourth.

As you putter along in a small airplane, you can see the sights for miles around.  You have a feeling of control, unlike an airliner, where you're just strapped in and going wherever the Captain says.

One of the joys I have in small airplanes is being able to circle.  For instance, I'm flying along on my course, when all of a sudden, I see something really interesting from the air.  I'm not stuck going in a straight line, so I just circle, and get a better view!

You'd be amazed at the number of little airports out there.  YOu can fly into nearly any community, or at least come close.  Flying makes the world seem much more accessible.  In fact, there are a lot of great vacation spots that are ONLY accessible by small airplanes.  It cuts down on the number of tourists tramping around your beach towel!

If you've ever considered taking lessons, go take an intro lesson, and see what you think.  It's WELL worth it!  Just be careful, because you'll be hooked in no time!

I've always been tempted to pursue a pilot's license.  It would sure make my 200-mile commute between offices a lot easier!
