Russia's new CZAR making war with georgia

The Russian state is bombing the pants off of Goergia.  The small balkin state of Georgia, formerly of the mighty Soviet Union is struggling to keep its independance, and a few of its citizens alive.  Mother Russia has been bombing strategic locations all over the tiny soverign nation.  Not readily distinguishing between civilian locals and military fixtures, the Russians have adolpted a bomb first ask questions later if ever stance on settling unrest in Georgia.  In response the United Nations has called emergency meetings, and will undoubtedly condemn the Russians for their current actions.  Georgia is not taking this aggression lie-ing down though, and has returned military action with military action.  However, how much could this tiny state do against such a titanic world super power?

No one stands to gain more press coverage for this Balkan feuding, then former Russian president Vladimir Putin.  Though there is another man currently filling the official position of President of Russia, Putin is the real man in controll of the country.  Vladimir Putin is setting himself up, all be it slowly, as Mother Russia's next father figure.  Not since Czar nicholas II was dispatched following WWII has Russia had an imperial type ruler.  Sure there were dictators like Lennin and Stalin, but there has not been an emporer, or Czar.  That is, of course, until Vlad Putin took over after Boris Yeltsin.  Putin, a former military commander in the Soviet system is a very power hungry and powerful man in Russia and through out the world.  As "president" Putin began his power grab, and it didn't end with the conclusion of his term as president.  As of right now, he is sharing controll of the country with a puppet of a politician that he picked and put into power.  Putin rules Russia from behind this man and there is little anyone can do in response, Putin is some what like the teflon Don, in his untouchable brand of rule.  With all of this said, it would be of no suprise to me if Putin increased his political hold of Russia, and eventually deemed himself the soverign ruler of the gigantic land mass.  In which case, I would be worried for the surrounding small states, because they will be once again sucked up into Greater Russia.  This uprising-to-be-quelled in Georgia is merely the beginning of a possible power/land grab for the new Czar of Russia, Vladimir Putin, though it may not be clearly evident for some time to come...rest assured that Putin has ambition, and the fire-power to back up this ambition.  Russia is at an interesting crossroads right now, and one way or the other it will be interesting to see how it unfolds.  I just sincerely hope that we as Americans are not thrust into this situation, because the last thing we need is another cold war...or worse.  America has its own war to fight right now, and we CAN NOT stand up to Russia on the behalf of Georgia, even though they supply soldiers to our Iraq conflict.  The big picture is whats important now...not being the big brother in this instance, but rather being the prudent political power that we are, and letting Russia deal with Georgia how they see fit.  Czar Vladimir the 1st will not be an amusing rival, when he deals with those sent to deal with him.  Sorry Georgia, you got yourself into this, and if it were up to me, you'd be left to get yourselves out...not worth the headache of having a Czar mad at us.

Sure Putin is a horrid and evil man, however to say that Stalin was not a Czar figure he was much worse. More people died at the hand of Stalin than Hitler. Stalin was the GOD of USSR just as the North Korean dictator is the GOD of his country. Stalin purposely created droughts and let millions of farmers dies so he could do his land grab. My family was on his hit list because we were capitalists and made money and were land owners. Putin is a saint in comparison. We have relatives who lived in Stalins siberian concentration camps. My family lived this. It was a sad day when the U.S. took all the horrid of Stalin out of our textbooks and made it look like he was some friend of ours. BS! He and FDR carved up our countries, playing chess with our country and those around us. Katerina

I wouldn't ever say that Stalin was not a butcher, but he was more a dictator than he was a Czar, whome I feltt having studied some Russian history did not Love his country and people like a Czar would.  Putin will not be able to repeat the atrocities committed by Stalin during the Soviet era, but he is someone who the world should keep a very close eye on...thanks Katerina for your comment it was very informative, and I hope that my little opinion piece wasn't overly filled with mistakes, or overly insulting to you or other Russian nationals.

I think you're wide of the mark to be honest Jon. I think Katerina has it right on the money.

Jon- I am not a Russian National. I am Latvian. My family escaped Stalin and my family liked the Czar. I just cancelled a trip to Latvia because I am in too much fear of Putin. Lithuania and Latvia have stood by Georgia's side in this unruly and horrid actions of Russia.

What is worse is that Putin was watching how we were responding to Iran before they began their illegal attack on Georgia. Now of course, Putin is cheering Obama on! He would love him to win so then he can begin more of these nasty takeover attempts. Poland is worried now. Nato is worthless with Germany not taking a stand because they are at Putin's mercy with their dependence on Russia for their oil. It is a mess. And then Russia planned a horrible inhumane rampage of Georgia which no one here knows about since the media here does not report what happens around the world if it does not fit their agenda. They burned villages and gang raped the women. It was a planned horror.

You have not offended me in any way. Never worry about that. You are entitled to your viewpoint. I don't take offense. Katerina

In  my opinion, the US needs to learn to stay out of other people's affairs...it seems to cause too much trouble...I won't go into detail although I can, I don't want to cause an argument where it's not necessary.  I agree with Jon Michael about us not coming to the aid of Georgia, however.
