We live in a busy world...everyone is busily involved in some daily routine that occupies nearly every waking moment...
Even my kids who play electronic games incessantly, and those who are addicted to TV watching, or those politicos who surf from news channel to news channel or internet site to internet site seeking 'good news' are missing it...!
Missing it? Missing what? The 'Good News'...
We have become a society of 'sayers'...but have lost our ability to 'hear'...
Ask the people around you the state of our economy, our society, our family life, life in general...I'm betting you will not receive a positive response...and do you know why...
You're about to find out!
'Silence is golden' is not a trite expression our grandparents drummed into us to keep us quiet and out of their hair! Or if that was their only motivation it is true nevertheless!
There is no silence that can be easily found...life is noisy...there are many vying for our attention...need I name them...
How about I name their tools and facilitators...cell phones, computers, TVs, movies, jets, traffic, background music, sporting events, Mp3 players, jogging, exercising, shopping, games, blogging, etc...just to name a few...noise...noise...noise...
You will not hear 'Good News' unless you're attuned to listening for it...you must actively pursue it...you must cultivate it...you must crave it...you must allow time for it...it is counter cultural...then you must recognize it when it knocks on your door...not only that...but then you must allow it to enter...actually open the door of silence...
Silence is a true friend...noise is a distraction...but have we 'lost' our sense of hearing?
We have large dishes all over the earth pointed into outer space just listening for some 'noise'...some evidence of extra terrestrial life or some intelligible signal...
Silence is Golden...let's cultivate it...who knows maybe we'll 'hear' some 'Good News'...!!!
After Mass on Sunday morning I decided to add this video...Listen and check out the words!!!
So true, so true! One of my earliest teachers said (back in the day) that's why God gave us 2 ears and one mouth! It's something I've always remembered. and isn't it amazing how much you/we can learn when we actively listen?
Ahhhh.....Silence- It is when you can actually hear the most- when you get answers that you have been searching through the distractions and noise of life, it is in the silence that the answer comes.. We just need to listen...in silence and hear the Good News- I love this Post!
Fran- my husband and I took our kids to the Bronx Zoo on Friday- decided before we left the house that we would have no radio, iPods, or DVD players in the car. So, for an hour and a half we talked, sang songs together, and just sat in silence. It was so nice. Then on the way home, everyone slept while I drove and just thought about our fantastic day as a family. Priceless!!!
Fran, thank you and sorry. Glad you are understanding. I was going to remove it but once you commented on it, didn't want to look like we were talking in mid air.
"Seek peace and persue it..........." a good verse that fits well with this post...peace does NOT just come to us...we have to SEEK it and sometimes PERSUE it......

Fran, I am a big fan of silence. Be still and know that I am God, is a favorite of mine.
