Here is a simple checklist for you to do before you leave for your "extended" vacation:

- Inform all your past clients/ current clients about your vacation. It is a good opportunity to build rapport.
- Set your Out-of-Office reply with an appropriate message.
- Get yourself someone you can trust/ an assistant to handle your escrows/ phone calls and emails while you are gone.
- Change your greetings on your voicemail.
- Make sure everyone involved with your escrows are aware of your absence.
- Set up your phone for international calling (if that's where you are heading).
- Back up your computer. (If you dont have time for any of these, make sure you do this one!)
- Scan all your documents that are currently in escrow.
- Scan your Seller's Disclosure notices for your listings and all other related documents about your listings.
- Make sure all your bills will be paid on time, set automated payments if needed.

Now as a blog-aholic, make sure you have your blogs covered while you are gone. Pre-write if you have to.

Pre-write blogs? You are too well organized Loreena. Don't forget to set the sprinklers and hold the mail.

Loreena - Greet list and I did all these things before my last vacation except I did not pre-write my blogs. I will agree with Gary on this one!

Vacation...is there such a thing for Realtors?  I am either too busy or don't have any money.  But thank you for the check list.  I was trying to think of something you missed but I can't yet.

Thanks.

The point of going on vacation is to get away and relax.  With a checklist in place it is possible to leave the world behind without worrying about business while getting some much needed R&R.  Thanks for sharing.

I have heard of people pre-writing blogs and it actually is a good idea. The only thing I did when I went on vacation - I took my laptop! Great vacation list!

Let me guess.. are you getting ready to head out? Let me add something... make sure your house and desk are clean before you leave. It sucks coming home to a mess!

Loreena,

Great checklist !  Stephanie and I definitely need to take a break - whenever we do, I am always a bit too frenetic about all the things that have to get done before we go !  Stephanie always says it will still be there when we get back : )  .

Already subscribed to your blog so will look foward to our China trip !! LOL

Also, how do you get that cool "subscribe to my blog" icon in your blog ?  Would love to include that in ours : )

Loreena....you jest of course! You mean we are suppose to take a vacation? Says who? I will admit I am sneaking away for a couple days next week...nothing big, but it's at least something to break the cycle.

In the past, whenever I plan a trip out of town, all hell breaks loose....so maybe I'll be blessed with some good fortune next week!

Wish Me Luck!

Notifying clients and leaving appropriate messages on email, voicemail and cell phone are so important!  I failed to do this once and lost a huge deal when I didn't get back to people I'd been working with for 2 years quickly enough (within 3 days).

Loreena,

Or just take your notebook with you and a way to access your desktop and it'll be just like being at home. No one will ever know - been there and done that. :)
