Real Estate is Local, Staging May Not be Local... but spamming me is not going to get me to reBlog you..

Gee Whiz is that entry title long enough for you?

reBlogging or is it Re-Blogging?

reBlogging was introduced on ActiveRain on Saturday August 9, 2008 by Brad Andersohn.

Sunday I commented:

"GLAD to hear the bugs were worked out.  I wish a loan officer, stager or anyone was blogging in my market so I could reBlog (Re-Blog?) on my ActiveRain outside blog... I can see what reBlogging can do...)"

I got an email from a BIG city stager:

I saw your comment about re-blogging and wishing that there was a stager in your area you could re-blog. There are many wonderful stager/bloggers on AR that write general information about home staging that is not area specific. Karen Otto from Texas is one that immediately comes to mind. While I blog a lot about staging in my area, I also write some general posts about how to choose the best home stager, and how staging can help save your clients money, etc. Please feel free to re-blog any of my staging posts (once the option becomes available again). They are just as true for Ohio as they are for California.

Gee thanks.

I could.

I get blogging.

I get reBlogging.

I get staging too.  Us yokels in the mid-west may all look like hayseeds to you in CA and the east coast...  but we have heard of staging. I went to a Barb Schwarz (the mother of real estate staging... or the person who packaged the concept of real estate staging for the real estate industry)  seminar in the 80's in Dayton Ohio before I moved to Columbus.  We have local stagers.

Despite my title  I do believe staging is local.

Forgive me but I'd really, really like it if local people who are in the staging business blogged about it.  I was contacted via email recently by a local member of ActiveRain who is a stager.  Nothing on her ActveRain blog.  Nada.  Zilch.  writing this I thought maybe she's posted something since.... recheck it:

"This user has not entered anything in their blog yet."

reBloggng Unlocal staging -  Blogging Columbus Ohio about staging

reBlogging about staging I'd probably reBlog the content of an Unlocal Stager I know rather than going to look for more stagers to reBlog.. who are NOT local.

In fact I have reBlogged .. no this was NOT on ActiveRain and it is a link not a real reBlog but I get that I could repost content for stagers locally or ... elsewhere.  This is not foreign to me, blogs talking to blogs is something I get.  I have blogged about stagers...  Craig Schiller in Chicago, Cindy Lin in San Francisco and Rachel Backus in Hudson Ohio  (Cleveland - Akron area NE Ohio) have been blogged about on my ColumbusBestBlog.com my other other blog... my real blog... "my other blog..."

I still think of Cindy when I see fake fruit.  I went to a seminar given by a Central Ohio stager this year and asked about Rachel's advice to paint dark oak cabinets.   Local stager said "No!"

Yeah I could reBlog your posts... but  I would rather encourage Central Ohio Stagers to blog...  or blog about Central Ohio stagers...  Ohio home stagers on ActiveRain  Forgive me for trying to encourage blogging in Central Ohio, I wish more local lenders, home inspectors and stagers were willing to give it a whirl.  Am I going to reBlog your material because you send me an email (spam)  via ActiveRain saying I can reBlog your posts?  Probably not.

My suggestion to anyone if you have an urge to email someone looking to be reBlogged.   Blog about it instead.  Bigger audience, maybe feeling as if I was spammed with the email via ActveRain is over reaching.  The person who emailed me to reBlog their content commented on one of my posts later on Sunday.  I was less angry about being spammed by a condescending,  big city, stranger stager talking down to me after the comment and asked permission to use her email in this post.

Give a link Cindy!  I want to look at RE agent reBlogging RE agent.  That one scares me.  I can't really see that I would want content I posted to consumers reposted.   I agree asking permission is a good idea for now... but I am not sure that people who want to USE the content would do so. Just the trustworthy people like Pat who you can expect to be treated respectfully will ask.

I did not ask before I did my first one... but it was not a consumer focused post... and I have NOT heard anything from the person I reBlogged.  I reBlogged Brad too right away.

Maureen,

I thought the title was the post there for a minute.  I haven't tried the reblogging as yet but I may give it a try here soon.  Thanks

I completely "don't get" reblogging, as in understand it.

I will comment, however, that in relocating to the east coast from the mid-west, hands down the mid west was more current on all things real estate- while no reflection WHATSOEVER on real estate agents on the northeast coast, it does say something about the quality of local associations, and broker/owners in the mid west! So much more (brilliantly) simple there.

where were you in the mid-west Laurie?

I am sure things are real local in real estate ... I have been in two Ohio markets and between Dayton and Columbus big differences.

I obviously have "fly over state" issues or the email yesterday might not have offended me...

Maureen,  I just re-bloged Cindy Jones, and then put her post up on my original blog that I have on Wordpress.  The traffic to that blog had a huge spike.  I'm a little nervous about it because I wonder if everyone will do it like I did - ask first then publish.  But her article would be very useful to my readers.

I would love to be your Realtor® in Akron Ohio!

Seems to me they made it pretty clear and I don't know what all the discussion is about. If you don't want your posts reblogged, we just un-check the box in our settings. I, too, wish more local experts (stagers, bankers, etc) in my area were posting, but we in the midwest are slow to catch on, that seems to be true and I take no offense, as I am way ahead of my local competion as far as a search goes for Akron homes. I would love to reBlog a good article for consumers on my outside blog and my neighborhood. I would also love it if someone thought one of my posts were worthy enough to be reBlogged. The back linking will certainly help me.

I got a google alert the other day, on Akron Ohio Homes, and one of my posts was picked up on a website in NC that had nothing to do with real estate???? I like it as it was linked back to me on AR and my own website. I feel anything I post on the internet is gone from me anyway. No one needs my permission as I have checked the box.

David I had to go back in and recheck for older posts to be reblogable.

I wonder why some are so upset by this. Change.

Reblog?... I've been on vacation and very out of touch (except for Twitter). Guess I need to look into it.  Is it an AR thing?

I have found that Changeis good on Activerain. All the new changes and all the resulting discussions by upset people all disappeared once the change was made "and we saw that it was good".

These guys apparently know a lot more than me about this business and the results we Realtors can receive by these changes. Like Jon or Rich said yesterday, look at where we were one year ago. Google had no idea what was coming and I would not be on the first page and getting business if I had not found and used AR! It's not about my posts for me, it is about the resulting business which I believe AR wants for us most of all. Blogging=success.

My understanding is that reblogging does show on our outside AR blogs.

I think we get your point.  I never thought about staging being local and am not sure I get that, was the stagers response to dark oak cabinets a regional thing or a question of that working for the particular property or that one stagers suggestion is her opinion vs another stager who might like dark oak.  Something to think about.  I didn't know that sending an email through Active Rain would be considered SPAM either.  Would think that is a communication between two ARer's.  Is it always considered SPAM?  If so what is the purpose of that feature?

Monika Hope you had a great vacation! You are going to have to catch up.

Missy The point of reBlogging is to show on our Outside blogs and they said it was only for Outside blogs, the entries would not show up on our AR blogs, but then changed that.

Miriam The impression I got from the AR member who is a Central Ohio stager (but has never posted anything on AR), staging is local.  She'd worked in other markets.  The wood paint thing the local stager I spoke to  does  not agree with the stager from Hudson Ohio... no idea if that is regional or personal.

I think staging is different in Central Ohio than other parts of the country. It may be different in Cinci and Cleveland than it is in Central Ohio.

If I get contact from a vendor through AR trying to promote their product that is spam and it happens to me often.   If someone emails me through AR to read their posts that is an inappropriate use of ActiveRain's contact button. There was a time that, that was real common. To me if we start soliciting strangers to reBlog our posts via emails that is an abuse of the system.  Others may welcome it.

I am liking the M ladies names..... ;-) David  I think the AR guys know a thing or two and if it does not work out it will change again...

Maureen thanks for the explaination.  Not a moment goes by it seems that I don't learn something about AR or Real Estate or life or whatever.  Love your posts BTW, read them all the time.

I reBloggged a lender in NE Ohio. I looked and looked for a post to reBlog from a local, semi local... anywhere in the state of Ohio stager, home inspector or lender. After I posted he added a bunch of links to himself at the bottom of the post. Wonder why?

Hey lady! :) Thanks, I am glad fake food reminds you of me ;) That's pretty darn cool.

Anyway, I do agree staging is local. Even within San Francisco bay area, styles can differ dramatically and buyers are very different even within the county. So it's definitely local!

Cheers,

Cindy

Jason Teri Lussier calls it "instigating."  I think.  I think that was the word.

Other than with the builders I don't think we have an industry in Central Ohio where the stagers have an inventory of furniture and props that they install in vacant homes...  that's before you get into style!

Home staging in Georgia.., from Sellsius  Fox News video about home staging in GA.  Home manager, all kinds of wrinkles to this story staging might be really really local.
