If you've been following my blog about dealing with interior light for RE shoots, you might have noticed I'm a big fan of dusk shots. Not only are they quite easy to create but they can be very dramatic as well.

Must dusk shots involve exteriors (focal point house) or interior (focal point interior). However, if you list in a metropolitan area you have third option which isn't quite like either of the first two.

Because there's so much light volume in developed areas you can truly take advantage of the views while still employing a dusk shoot.

:)

Gorgeous photos Bryce!  The city lights look mesmerizing when looking out the windows.

Makes me wish I sold in an urban setting! The photos are very captivating. What do you think about adapting it to suburban settings?

I'm curious about the suburban setting also.  I have noticed some pictures lately with the lights on in the house and they actually looked quite nice.  Would they have taken that shot at dusk.

I just LOVE dusk shots yours are amazing. I can't believe that everyting inside and outside is in perfect focus. It really pays to hire a professional. :) I really haven't taken enough dusk shots. Here's my most recent one. My timing was probably half an hour too late.

I'm such a wanna be it's pathetic.  :)

Bryce, fantastic photos. I read your blog about taking pictures at dusk and your results are very convincing. Thanks.

Maureen, thank you. I actually showed up to this shoot midafternoon. When I saw the views I told my client (nicely!) we'd be rescheduling to the evening. I think the dusk shots help mitigate the lack of staging a bit (staging rocks!). ;)

Sharon, you can create a dusk shoot in almost any setting. In fact it's rare I am directly downtown, most of my dusk shots are in a neighborhood setting. See the 'urban" shot below:

The thing that's different about being in a built up area is the amount of light outside (in the view itself). If I was to do a similar dusk shoot out of a more residential area all I would get was really dark or black windows. Of course there are times when it does work in a residential area...if you have a nice sunset (shoot a bit earlier) or if you want to really catch the early part of dusk you can perhaps get some highlights from the view. Each situation has their own unique attributes.

Michelle, Thanks!

Marchel, see my comments above. :)

Maureen, thanks very much as always. Maureen, your dusk shot looks fine...better than my early attempts! ;)  Just keep practicing. The only constructive crit. I'd offer is the color temp might benifit from going a bit warmer (that'll fix that super blue door as well as make the room a bit more cozy).

Teri, thank you. It's fun to able to share this stuff. :)

Susie, thanks...please do share your pics. I'm always happy to answer questions or coach as well provided I have time.

Michael, thanks very much. Glad you stopped by.

Cheers, -B
