I love school supplies. Lately I have been noticing these coveted items stocked in the grocery store and other stores around town in preparation for the start of school on August 25. It brings back wonderful childhood memories of shopping for new school clothes and school supplies around this time of year. Depending on the year... dresses, saddle shoes, penny loafers, bobby sox, pleated skirts, sweater sets, pony tails, crisp white notebook paper, new crayons, yet to be sharpened #2 pencils, fountain pens, on and on the list goes. Back in the day girls weren't allowed to wear jeans or pants. School always started the day after Labor Day and I couldn't wait to wear my brand new outfits and use my brand new school supplies. I haven't bought new crayons since my own kids were in elementary school but I can recall in an instant the distinct crayon smell upon opening a new box.
School supplies and clothes are important but more important are immunizations. Parents are advised to get their children immunized in a timely manner. Texas law requires all children attending school, preschool, and daycare to have their immunizations up to date before they can be admitted. All parents are aware that children in close contact with each other seem to pick up every bug that goes around and that won't change but immunizations provide them protection from the more serious diseases. Immunizations first, then school supplies and clothes.
I have often thought that I should have been an elementary school teacher since I love school supplies so much!
