I'm not sure how this is affecting your business, but it is something i am looking at. With fuel prices shooting from $3 to $4 I am a lot more careful about when I drive to preview or show. I work to control costs, and this is a cost that is important to control.

Last year I still covered 10 counties. This year I had to make a hard decision, and cut back to 5.  I may yet cut things again, and really sharpen my focus in a much more tightlly defined market area. Historicallyl, I ahve not thrown money at print ads, or a lot of "fluff" advertising: magnets, calendars, schedules, etc. I know my reaction to these pieces, and don't want others to have a similar reaction. In addition to this, I just don't feel like filling someone's mailbox woth waste paper.

So all of that aside, I am interested in learning what you are doing to curb rising energy costs.

My best to you all,

I dont cut out my driving. If I have a preapproved serious buyer I will drive. But I only spend money on advertising that works and brings in the business.

I agree with you, we must look wherever we can to cut cost.  I pesonally am not so anxious to volunteer showing homes until I have several homes to show in any one certain area.  Before, I would get in my car and take clients to see just one home but now I simply make an appointment for one day during the week and hit one certain area.  Next week we can go check out a different area.

Anyway, good luck.

Cheers.

We are in the tourist area, and gas prices sure affected us. We used to see a lot of people from Atlanta coming for weekends. No more, we practically do not see 2 day trips any more. Streets are emptier.

Of course, it affects us. Agents are less willing to drive around. It used to be part of business, it became business...

Driving less and using electronic marketing instead of print, at least cutting back.

Instead of working on controling costs, work on closing an additional ONE deal this year.  You can't burn that much gas if you tried!
