Big time retailers Target and Lowes Home Improvement are making their way to the rapidly growing area of Cabarrus County, just north of Charlotte. With the addition of the new shopping center, more new homes are expected to follow. Concord(home to Lowes Motor Speedway and the massive shopping mecca Concord Mills), Mount Pleasant, and Harrisburg residents needn't worry that their community will become too commercial or cliche, though. A citywide 80,000 square foot restriction on retail buildings was put into effect to maintain the comfort and down-home feel of the once rural community, as well as to protect local businesses from having to deal with unfair competition. Morrison Ridge Shopping Center has already begun construction and is projected to be complete by 2011, with residents from southwest Concord, Kannapolis, Mount Pleasant, and Harrisburg having easy access via Highway 49 and Highway 3. Convenient to Interstate 485, Harrisburg and Concord has seen a boom in residential construction over the past 15 years. No longer a four stoplight town, Harrisburg is a stone's throw from UNC Charlotte, Lowes Motor Speedway, and Concord Mills. The community has been able to preserve a large part of it's Mayberry feel despite the amount of growth it has seen. You can still expect a packed house at weekend high school football games, and don't be surprised if the bank tellers remember your name and ask about the family. Concord hasn't wavered in it's charm either. The most noticeable difference in the town in recent years is for the better, having cleaned up some less than dapper roads and it's residents, old and new, taking more pride in it's appearance. Cabarrus County has mastered the art of steady growth, and is a great option for home buyers looking for real estate in Charlotte and it's surrounding areas.
