It's back to school time, but the students attending the new Woodland Elementary School in Olathe will notice some differences in their new school. That is because the school was built using green building principles and they hope to get LEED certification. (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Program). To become certified, the school had to meet criteria in categories related to water efficiency, energy efficiency and the storage and collection of recyclable waste and the district will find out if Woodland is certified this fall.
Some of the changes include: washing their hands under timed water faucets, learning in rooms with strategically placed windows to help them learn with natural light and many more green changes! What a great addition to the Olathe School District and the town of Olathe!
