Black ForestGive your taste buds a treat and stop by the award winning Black Forest Café & Bakery located in Amherst, New Hampshire.

The Black Forest Café & Bakery specializes comfort foods with a creative twist!

Owners, Bruce and Martha Walters adopted a unique philosophy...  All foods are hand made from scratch on the premises every day using fresh, local, natural ingredients!     fresh ingredients

I spoke with co-owner, Martha Walters who told me that the Black Forest Café and Bakery first opened on November 25, 1988 at Salzberg Square where they remained for 10 years.  As their popularity grew, they found they needed more space and moved to the current location just off of Highway 101, where they expanded their operation to include a function room and take-out.

At the Black Forest Café & Bakery, you will experience creative dishes and mouth-watering desserts that you won't find anywhere else!  As Martha Walters explained  to me, this is the result of the implementation of old-world techniques... and "nothing is mass produced."

With each season, head chef Bruce Walthers along with his staff create new and delicious recipes that will amaze you and delight your taste buds...  Martha emphasized that the Black Forest uses local ingredients whenever possible.  She said Bruce was the inspiration for the delicious pastries.

Bruce trained at the finest culinary schools in the world - including Le Cordon Bleu in London and Ecole de Cuisine, La Varenne in Paris.

      salads and wraps

Every year since 2002 the Black Forest has won the Best Cookie award from NH Magazine as well as a recent cheesecake award and "Best Dessert Cafe" of 2007.      black forest pastries

I love the food at the Black Forest Café & Bakery.  Everything I have tried has been excellent!

The Sunday brunch is my favorite.., I can smell the homemade rolls and fresh breakfast dishes!

When on the go, I often stop in the adjoining "market" to get lunch to take out.  The cases are filled with unique wraps, salads, soups, entrees, quiche, and other seasonal creations.

Of course, you can't leave without dessert.  Try one of the award wining chocolate chip cookies ... or the seasonal fruit tart or slice of summer berry pie.

Experience the Black Forest Café & Bakery .. " where the proof is in the product, and taste the difference!"

Hope to see you there!

Patricia:    The Black Forest Cafe is a very special place.  Not only do they support local growers, but the quality of the food is exceptional.  If you ever are visiting this area, let me know.  I'll treat you to some delicious pastries.

George~  As they say -- if you give the food, Realtors will come! (lol).  It is true, however, these pastries are way above the normal donut!  My clients love to stop here for a quick bite to eat between showings!  Hope you get to experience this wonderful restaurant.

Carole~  It would be great to meet you in the fall and treat you to the beautiful leaf peeping and some wonderful chocolate pastry.  I am sure the other Joan would be up for that too!  I'll have to check with Bruce and Martha and see if they ship their goodies - What a great idea!

Jennifer ~   I think you would feel right at home at the Black Forest Cafe.  I have gotten a lot of ideas from their menu for cooking with seasonal fruits and vegetables.  However, these chefs are the best!  Hope you get to visit New Hampshire and stop by this great cafe.

Hi Toni~   I am sure there are some great places to eat in Baton Rouge -- We are lucky to have some farms very close to this restaurant!  It is certainly a treat to eat dishes made with the fruits and vegetables of the season!

This is an awesome share.  Made me hungry just reading.  It's also refreshing to read about some business that started and not only made it but expanded as well.  I'm sure they'll appreciate your support.

A favorite stop for me when I travel across the state on Rt. 101...the food...amazing.  Definitely worth checking out!  I love stopping by and grabbing lunch then scooting over to the bakery to bring some goodies home to the family.

Although, it's sometimes a long ride from there to Keene...there is definitely snacking going on as we cross over Temple Mountain!  ;-)

Hi Kim ~  Glad to hear you have been able to experience the Black Forest Cafe.  This definitely is a New Hampshire Gem.  It is great being able to find a restaurant that uses local produce and has a unique menu.  The pastries are awesome.  You certainly live in a beautiful area and the next time I go over Temple Mountain, I will give you call.  You have a great restaurant in Jaffrey.

Joan:  This stuff just looks so incredibly yummy.  I think I am gaining weight just sitting here and looking at it all.  Is the Black Forest Cafe & Bakery only in New Hampshire, or are there others closer to me ?

Hi janeAnne -- I received an email from the owner and they liked the blog.  I am going to see if she can encourage some of the patrons to make some comments.  This is the piece I am finding a bit challenging so far.  I think it will catch on.  I have a couple of ideas up my sleeve, so I will have to try them out and see if that generates some local comments.

Joan, Very tempting.... Now would be a perfect time to do some leaf peaping in your state. In Baltimore, I am just seeing a tiny bit of color in our trees.

Hi Margaret - I think you have some some great leaf peaping in your save as well.  It is a very colorful time of year in many parts of the country.
