There is emerging, yet another victim of this on going Real Estate crisis....the Student Loan Program.

According to Mark Connolly, director of the State Bureau of Securities Regulation, many NH students are being notified they are not receiving the Student Loans they were expecting.

Many Lenders have left the Student Loan programs. The NH Higher Education Loan Corp, a leading provider, announced suspension of its program because of Market Conditions. This has affected over 6,000 students.

Hi Joan, boy that is a disappointing outcome of our economy. Hopefully these students will be able to find alternative loans.

Joni, This is absolutely frightening....why is it not important to educate our future generation?  These terrible cutbacks I have been reading about are the worst I've ever heard of.

Joan, What? Right before school starts again? This is going to be a huge blow to so many who are trying to further themselves. This is a true shame.

Hi Joan... this is the sort of ripple effect that will affect us as a nation for years to come as our youth become less educated and fail to achieve their full potential because of short-sighted funding issues like the one you describe.  Let's hope this is not the start of an alarming trend nationally!

Hi Joan,

Very sad news indeed.  About 15years ago, I worked for a company that had a program that guaranteed student loans and was underwritten by an insurance policy.  Many people declined the offer of guaranteed student loans because they figured, "we'll just use the equity in our house."  Sad to hear that not only home equity is shrinking, but student loans are also disintegrating.

This is pitiful.  We push our young folks to be successful, to gain a solid education, to prepare for the career world, etc. but then we tell them there is no way we are going to help them achieve this.  Pitiful.

Gary...I doubt this is true only in NH. I don't understand why it's not being covered other than locally?

Carole....from what I've been reading some of these are loans that are already approved and have been pulled...leaving people to scramble

Debbie...this really is a shame. The interest rates have also been raised on existing loans. My son is paying on one!

Steve....it sort of reminds me of that "6 degrees of separation" there is going to be so much fallout from all of this. I don't think we've seen the half of it!

Hi Marlene..haven't talked to you in ages! Tese unilateral shut the door solutions to an all encompassing problem is doing nothing more than making things worse!

And it always seems to be aimed at the little guy!

Joan,

This is tragic and will have far-reaching effects.....I feel very sad for the students who needed those student loans and now won't be getting them.  This is such a great loss for the student and for the world.
