Who do you rely on for local real estate information?

I was just googling the search phrase Marin County Real Estate Market Conditions and came across an appraiser's blog, which contained this text:

"March 13, 2007
I've always been disapointed in the way the Marin Independent Journal reports on the Marin real estate market .... The IJ relies on realtors that have a vested interest in creating and maintaining a positive perception ... regardless of what is really happening in the Marin real estate market."

Okay, first this appraiser is not in Marin County.  Not even close.  They are in Martinez, about an hour (and a world) away.

Second, he is complaining that the Marin Independent Journal (or IJ), the local newspaper, relies on Realtors for their Real Estate information.  Who should they be relying on?  Local Plumbers?  Or maybe plumbers in Martinez?

The written word is very powerful and the internet allows anyone and everyone to portray themselves as experts.  In this case, once again, I am scratching my head.

I agree.  Good point!

And, as a homeonwer in Marin I do believe that individual Realtors could do more to differentiate themselves, including by providing helpful resources in the times ways and places that would be most helpful to home buyers, sellers - even owners and renters. For examme, I am often looking for reputable household help and usually ask friends and neighbors for recommendations or look through my top drawer for the last flyer someone tucked on my mailbox.  What if the Realtor who sold me my home  gave me a handy laminated list?  Or, better yet, a card with resources, including a place like LaborFair where I can go online to find the right person for a job.

I do look at Inman News, Zillow and elsewwhere to help me when I buy

Hi Kare,

Inman News has some good information.  However, I would not rely on any information that you see on Zillow.

If you go to my website and click on Local Services  you will find a plethora of trusted product and service providers.

If you don' find it there, do like my clients do and call me.  I will research it until I find someone worth recommending.
